"Excuse me, I have an appointment to meet the ACP"

That cool voice from the other side of the door pierced through his very being. The pen he had been holding dropped to the floor in a dull thud.

The muffled voices from outside his room seemed like they were coming from the other side of the sea.

That was a voice he could recognise from miles away, yet seemed unrecognisable. That was the voice that held so many memories that were an integral part of him, yet the voice that he wanted to detach himself from.

That was the voice that still troubled him, all these years later. That was the voice of the woman he had once loved. That was the voice of the woman he had lost.

He sat down on his chair dazedly. Lacing his fingers together on the table, he blankly stared ahead, unable to believe that he had been pitted in the same place he was running from.

Here. Facing her.

"There? Thank you, inspector"

Her voice grew louder, so did the ache in his heart.

The room to his door opened, "Hello Sir, I am -"

She froze on the spot as she realised who the man was at the other side of the table,

For a second, she let herself feel the intense surge of emotions this man always evoked in her, as memories of the year she had spent knowing him, loving him and then eventually losing him, rocked her soul.

"Virat" His name was, but, a mere whisper.

He looked up at those large black eyes, he would curse himself for that mindless action later, for those eyes that had once held the world for him were now cool, fathomless pools of emptiness.

And that hurt him more than anything she could ever say or do.

"Hello, Sai"
