"Not half as bad as I expected," Most of the stuff had been moved into the new house that my mom had purchased in an entire new state, Houston, Texas. I had no idea how Texas people worked, but I knew it wouldn't be hard to adjust to. My mother had worked hard in her career to be able to get us out of an apartment and into a brand new space. I was proud of her, to say the least. June had walked over, handing me $300 to hand to the men who had been moving outside. I tossed the hoodie of my jacket over my head, moving out to the men who were unloading the truck. "Here you go," I handed it to them. It was a bit extra, but it was cheaper than most movers who charged over thousands to get their shit moved.
"Gracias," all three of the men said and moved to their truck to head to another appointment, probably. I returned through the garage to the inside of the house from the garage, closing it down. June would move her car in later next to Moms probably. "They're gone," I called throughout the house. I didn't take long to take a seat on the furniture that we had brought with us, head tossed back to catch my breath. It had been fairly quiet since everyone was in their respective rooms - which I know June was loving because for 17 years, we had shared a bunk bed. Quite embarrassing, but my mother knew she wanted to upgrade from an apartment to a house.
For that reason, we had shared a room in respective bunk beds until my mother felt fancy and upgraded us to full twin beds. Then we went under redecorating as best as we could without violating apartment policies and put a tapestry between us to establish some sort of privacy. Now, we both had rooms to ourselves, upstairs and out of mom's way. Speaking of, I stepped from the couch in attempt to figure out just where she had disappeared off to. "Mom!" I called out, voice echoing through the newly furnished established.
"I'll give you a call back," She said into her phone quickly before hanging up. That I caught because the living room area wasn't anything but a straight shot to her room. "Not checking out your new room, Jade?" She asked, a bit suspicious but I knew it was her business nonetheless.
"I was catching my breath from helping the movers since you both ghosted. June however is loving the space," I said with a smile. There had been nothing in my mother's room but her bed frame and new mattress that arrived through Amazon the same time that we had here.
"You should be checking it out, girl. Hit the town or something, take my car." I cocked my neck back and damn near off my shoulders at her freely offering her car up to me. June had a car, but I didn't, so I was often either stuck at home or begging her to use hers to go to the nearest bookstores and whatnot. "Go before I change my mind. Also, make sure you set your calendar for 4 pm tomorrow. You know we're going to that dealership Cassidy mentioned out here."
Cassidy was my mother's best friend, but she was more like a sister. We called her Aunt Cassidy growing up and eventually, she became Cass. She was definitely the cool aunt that allowed you to do things that you had no business doing. For instance, she had taken June to the skating rink when we were younger and allowed her to hold hands skating with a boy. It didn't seem like a big deal, but we were only 9 when it happened.
"Remind me to take out some of the deposit for your car, too." She said and I couldn't be more excited to have my own shit. Part of the excitement vanished when I thought about the simple fact that I would have to get a job, pay for part of my insurance and gas, but I was still excited. I kissed my mother's cheek for what seemed like a thousand times before I left the room squealing, more excited than before. I didn't even want to go anywhere anymore, so I tossed the keys on the counter and jogged up the stairs to have my room finished.

"I haven't seen you since I moved, my goodness." Cass said, grabbing me quickly and forcing me into a hug where I could barely breathe. Returning the hug was no issue, but getting her off of me appeared to me one. June had been beside us, arms opened and prepared for a hug when Cass rolled her eyes and mean mugged her. Their relationship was like that, so no one even took it seriously. After we had all reconnected, we took one car to go and get breakfast from a mom and pop shop called Cracker Barrel. "Do you want to know why they call it Cracker Barrel?" My aunt teased from the front seat with a grin at her features.
