I was thankful that we had come on when we did, because the party was rumored to have been shot up a little after 5 am. I saw that MaKayla had texted GroupChat praising the lord, but I was honestly unsure why. Nobody had even responded, well, except Briyana who had put the side eye emoji. It was none of my business, to be honest and even though these were supposed to be new friends of ours, I had already been looking at her sideways for the comment about my Mom.

I had a protective nature about that woman, being the oldest that is. I didn't find anything funny about her joking wise unless it was coming from me and my little sister. June had been on the phone late that night, but didn't bother to respond to MaKayla either. Who was she talking to? I had no idea, I tried to snoop but my shadow would've appeared at the front of the door.

So instead, our mornings started as usual - with Ma gone, both of us taking a thousand years to get dressed and then heading to school. I could still smell the cologne from Ace in my car on the steering wheel seats, only because his entire car smelled the same.

"What did you think of the party last night?" June asked, leaning over to turn the stereo down so she could hear my response.

"I think that we had fun, it could've went better besides the drama at the diner, but overall good." I said, a small smile at my face. June looked to be analyzing me, searching for something deeper in my response. "What about MaKayla and ole girl?" I asked.

"I think it's weird that MaKayla tried to make it seem like Ace was harming you or sum," She said, brushing her over skirt and shaking her head. She had been rocking a soft cashmere colored long sleeved shirt with a pink skirt and white converse. Gold accented jewelry and a cute pink Dior handbag to match. "You also look pretty!"

I had been keeping of streak of not dressing like a bum today. I had an emerald green short with a pair of baggy jeans and white cocaines, a hand-made DIY green bag sitting in the back. I had gone up do with my hair today, two strands hanging down. I considered chopsticks, but people had been getting dragged on Twitter for doing that.

"I think she has a crush on Ace and feels overprotective, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt this time. The comment about Ma was pushing it, though. And how she acted towards the server, like come on.." I said, pulling into a parking lot while shaking my head. "It was just an accident. I left her a tip but I might swing by there today to check and see if she ever recovered. You know, apologize and shit."

June remained silent for the rest of the time and as her sister, I could tell that she had on her thinking face. We walked into the classroom and to our lockers, surprised to see everyone from that night standing there.

"Wassup twin nem," Deuce said with a smirk of his lip, dapping us up awkwardly. Jordan nodded his head in our direction. The girls had been walking up afterwards, a bounce in MaKayla's step as she walked.

"Hey sissies, hey niggas," Briyana said, waving towards us and leaning on the opposite lockers. The hallways had been getting a bit chaotic, so the attention was on that for a minute.

I could tell that this was what we were going to do, reunite in the hallways and then part ways to our respective classes, which I didn't mind. Keep the social interaction to a minimum and keep the A's to a maximum.

That shit was corny.

"Y'all feel like coming to something more secluded?" Deuce asked out of the blue, chewing at his toothpick in his mouth before a teacher came by and plucked it from his mouth.

"It depends on who all gone be there," MaKayla said, speaking for the first time with a smile on her face. Briyana nodded in cahoots, dapping her homegirl up with a smirk.
