The Memories

A.J: "Kai my boy, why must you cry?" he asked in a soft tone "there's no need, you just fell and scraped your knee, you'll be fine"

Kai: "it burns dad" he sniffled

A. J: "it's alright daddy's got you" he picked up his son and brought him to his wife

Cleo: "oh my, what happened"

A.J: "nothing bad he just fell" he set the little boy down on the kitchen table

Kai: "i'm fine it just burns" he whipped a tear

Cleo stopped the bleeding and covered up his knee

Cleo: "there you go. much better" she gave her son a kiss on his forehead "i love you"

Kai: "I love you too mom" he smiled as he was swinging his legs while seating on the table

Out of no where everything started to fade away turning pitch black.

Kai: "mom?" he asked in the dark scared

"you're pathetic" he heard a voices
"you're weak"
"you disappointed me"
"look at what you did"
"you'll never be a man"
"you're just a disappointment"

Kai: "mom?" his eyes began to water as a Cleo appeared with a belt in her hand and a wine bottle in the other "why are you doing this?!"

Cleo: "You're the reason he left" she took a sip from the wine bottle

Kai: "mom please stop, you're drunk again"

Cleo: "AND WHOSE FAULT IS THAT, KAI?" she yelled making the little boy flinch "don't tell me you're scared" she smiled

Kai: "mom pleas-" he was interrupted by a hit from the belt making him yelp

Cleo: "SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP" she yelled making her face red "you're such a dick Kai... I gave you everything you wanted and this is what you do in return? YOU CHASED HIM AWAY!!!"

Kai: "NO I DIDNT THAT WAS YO-" he cried as the belt hit him again making him cried out loud

Cleo: "THAN WHY DIDNT HE TAKE YOU WITH HIM" Kai stayed silent with widen eyes "EXACTLY! he left me with you" she said as she poured the wine all over him "I never wanted you" she hit him again

Kai: "mom please stop" she smashed the bottle against the floor next to him

Cleo: "I'm not your mother...leave"

Kai: "mom..."

Cleo: "GET THE FUCK OUT KAI" she hit him again "YOURE NOT MY SON" hits him again "YOURE NOTHING TO ME" she cried as she hit him one last time "I'll kill you if it means for you're out of my life"

Kai sat up on his bed, in his room panting, dripping in sweat and was sobbing loudly. The images of his mother beating him kept playing in his head over and over, he brought his knees to his chest and cried into them

Kai: "GO AWAY!!!" he screamed at his memories "LEAVE ME ALONE!!!" he cried while held chunks of his hair in a tight grip "AAHH" he yelled through his clenched teeth

Korra: "hey, calm down... It's alright, I'm right here" she ran into his room and went straight to his bed holding on to him for dear life "I got you" she rocked him

Kai: "she's coming for me!" she cried still gripping his hair

Korra: "it was a nightmare" she hated seeing Kai like this "your safe" she kissed his head

Kai: "Korra, please!" he continued to cry "please don't let her get me!" he cried into his knees hiding his face

Korra: "I won't let anything happen to you" her eyes started to water "i promise" she continued to hold him

They stayed in the same position for what felt like hours but Korra didn't mind, she just wanted Kai to know she was there. Moments later Kai steadied his breathing and loosen the grip of his hair

Kai: "t-they lied to me" his cracked "they said they ... that they love me"

Korra: "just breath" her voice was shaky

Kai: "he left us... he left me" he began to cry again as he let go of his knees and held onto Korra "I drove him away...I-It's my fault" he sobbed into Korra's chest "it's my fault he left, It's my fault I wasn't good enough, It's my fault she became a drunk, it's my fault she hurt me, It's my fault I ended up in the streets" his breathing was no longer steady "it was all me!"

Korra: "Kai stop, it's not your fault" she loosened her grip on him "look at me" he looked up at her with tears running down his face "you are the most smartest, kindest, bravest, selfless person I ever met" she whipped his tears with her thumbs "Your such a handsome young man, you know that?" she asked smiling at him "How did I get so lucky?" a tear fell from her face

Kai: "i'm the lucky one" he gave her a smile hugging her "hey kor, can I tell you something"

Korra: "of course, anything"

Kai: "sometimes when I think of a monster i always picture Cleo" he looked up at his Sister "and when I think of a mother figure i always picture you not cleo" he gave her a shy smile

Korra: "really?" she smiled as he nodded "not even Senna?"

Kai: "i mean she was there but not like how you were" he chuckled "you actually make me feel safe like a real parent should" he went back to hugging her "you'll be a good mom"

Korra: "you really think so?" she held him close as she felt his head nod against her shoulder. "come on let's get you back to bed it's still early"

Kai: "what time is it?" he looked at his phone reading 4:45am "oh" he made the girl chuckle

Korra: "try and get some rest okay" she got up from his bed

Kai: "hey kor? can you...stay?" he asked with his puppy eyes

Korra: "of course" she cuddled next to her brother "as long as you want me to"

Kai: whisper* "forever" he smiled closing his eyes and cuddling against his sister

And with that, they went to bed, holding each other.
