A Promise

Korra: "mommy look! This is our new brother, can we keep him?" She pointed at a tan boy with green eyes who wore ripped clothes and needed a bath

Senna: "brother? Doesn't he have a home?" She questioned

Mako: "no he doesn't"

Bolin: "can we keep him please"

Korra: "yea mom please, I want to protect him from bullies and I can't do that if he lives in the streets" she begged "I won't take no for an answer, I can't allow that"

Senna: "okay Korra calm down" she chuckled "alright, I'll see what I can do" she walked up the the little boy hiding behind Korra "what's your name"

Korra: "go ahead tell her your name" she gave him a smile

Kai: "k-Kai" he said in a low voice

Senna: "it's nice to meet you Kai, my name is Senna" she smiled "you kids go play now, I'll go talk to Tonraq" she left

Korra: "come on guys" she grabbed Kai's hand and led them to her room "Bolin see if you have any clothes you can give to Kai, Mako can you run a bath for him"

Bolin&Mako: "yes ma'am" they ran off

I watched in awe. You gave them a command and they followed, you gave me a warm smile that made me feel valued. You gave me the things I needed in order to survive, I was clean and looked good as new

Korra: "wow, you're a handsome little man" she smiled

You never made me feel down, you treated me differently than the other kids.

Korra: "you don't need to be scared anymore"

You were there for me when I wasn't there for myself. You always made me feel safe.

Korra: "I promise to protect you with my life, forever and always"

But who will protect you

"No!"

Mako: "shit" he ran up to Tonraq knocking him face first onto the floor kicking his gun away and pinning him down

Korra fell to her knees as her eyes watered.

Hiroshi: "Asami, are you alright" he ran to her once Bolin untied him.

Bolin: "Hiroshi get the rest!" He ran towards Korra

Korra was frozen as she looked down at the bloody bullet wound. She looked at the face that belonged to the boy who jumped in front of her taking in the bullet.

Korra: "no, no, no" she held the boy

Jinora: "Kai!" She cried

Korra: "talk to me please!" She cried

Kai: "I'm fine" he held his stomach

Tonraq: "what a idiot" he laughed insanely

Korra handed Kai to Bolin. She stood up and her face became emotionless, she walked towards Tonraq and Mako
