Rory POV:
I lay in bed staring at the dark walls and ceiling of my room. I hadn't slept a wink last night. Finally I couldn't stand it any more, my hand reached for the light switch and like every morning my eyes shifted to my alarm clock. 07:30, pretty early for me...I usually sleep in on weekends, but not today, today something was bothering me immensely.
Once I got out of bed I realised that I couldn't hear my mom or dad...they usually woke up pretty early. I walked over to the kitchen and picked up an orange from the island, I bit straight through it peel and all. I know, I know it's "weird". Huh, weird...I just realised something weird. I lived in an apartment smack dab in the middle of New York City and everything was silent. Not a sound.
I approached the balcony and saw not a single person or car on the road. I immediately began to panic, I ran to my computer...only one recent notification. It was a blog post saying "Is anyone out there?", 0 views and 4 comments, all from the writer. The last one said "I've been here for months now...I think this will be my last post for a while"
"MONTHS! WHAT ON EARTH !" I shouted out.
What did they mean by months!?
And then I noticed the date on my computer.
I was in such a state of shock that I dropped my orange.
See! And that's why you aren't supposed to peel an orange before you eat it!
Sorry that's off topic...back to the point.
What I had thought had been a mere 8 hours, had been a whole year.
I had been asleep for a whole year.
