Sampoorna's Efforts In Vain

Next day morning,

Anirudh is running late to leave for work and is waiting for Bondita to bring coffee for him as he never leaves the house without two things, one seeing Bondita's face and second having coffee made and served to him by her. Over the years, he has developed this strange habit and is not at all guilty of it. Bondita, however only knows about the latter one.

Anirudh(from study) - Bondita... Late ho raha hai mujhe, kaha reh gyi ho tum.

Bondita (rushing to the kitchen) - Abhi aai Pati babu... Hey Dugga Maa! aaj toh boht gussa honge Biristra Babu, abhi tak unki coffee nai bani hai.

Sampoorna (who was already present in the kitchen) - Kya hua meri Bondita ko, itni pareshaan kyu hai? Apni didi ko nai batayegi?

Bondita - Didi vo Pati babu ko deri ho rahi hai or unki coffee... (She could not complete her statement)

Sampoorna - Bass itni si baat hai. Ye le Anirudh babu ki coffee. Ja jaldi se ja kar de aa.

Bondita - Didi aap toh janti hai na ki Pati babu... (She was again cut short by Sampoorna)

Sampoorna - Ki Anirudh babu sirf tere hi haathon se bani coffee peete hain, mai janti hu or isiliye tune jese mujhe kal bataya tha vese hi banayi hai maine. Chinta mat kar or jaldi se ja ke de aa.

Bondita (unconvinced) - Theek hai didi.

Bondita leaves for study and Sampoorna smiles and goes after her, silently, confident that Anirudh would love the coffee made by her and even she can make it for him from now on.

In the study,

Anirudh - Kitni der laga di Bondita, kab se intezaar kar raha hu tumhara.

Bondita (in a low tone) - Maaf kariyega Pati babu, ye lijiye aapki coffee

Anirudh sensed that something was wrong as Bondita did not look him in the eye while serving the coffee. He took a sip and immediately understood that it was not made by her. He looks at Bondita whose eyes were fixed on the ground, her face expressionless.

Anirudh (brings her closer to him and asks with affection) - Bondita, upar dekho(she looks into his eyes with tears brimming in hers) kya ye coffee tumne banayi hai?

Bondita simply nods in a 'No' without saying anything.

Anirudh (smiles) - Vo toh mujhe pata chal hi gaya tha. Kisne banayi hai fir ye?

Bondita (now crying softly) - Sampoorna didi ne

Anirudh (trying to pacify her) - Sshh! Rona kyu hai, kuch bhi nahi hua hai fir aansu kis baat ke?

Bondita(sobbing) - Maaf kar dijiye Pati babu, mai janti hu ki aap sirf mere haath ki coffee pee kar ghar se nikalte hai or fir bhi....

Anirudh - Bondita...ye sahi hai ki mai sirf tumhare haath ki coffee pee kar nikalta hu. Par meri do(2) aadaton mei se ek mei toh koi badlaav nahi aaya or vo cheez honi zyada zaruri thi jo ki tumne kar di(he wipes her tears)

Bondita (not understanding what Anirudh meant) - Konsi 2 aadatein, Pati babu?(still in tears)

Anirudh, who found himself in a dilemma as to how to explain to Bondita, says - Mere liye coffee lekar toh tum hi aayi na, ye kaafi hai. Par haan! aaj ke liye maaf kar raha hu, kal se esa bilkul nahi hona chaiye. Tum or tumhari coffee dono waqt par aa jane chaiye mere paas varna acha nahi hoga.

Bondita (who has started smiling now) - Ji Biristra babu, aap jesa chahte hai bilkul vesa hi hoga. Koi bhi shikayat ka mauka nai degi ye Bondita aapko

Anirudh smiles seeing Bondita smile and says - Theek hai ab chalta hu mai, apna dhyaan rakhna or padhai karna mat bhulna.

Bondita - Ji Pati babu...

With this Anirudh takes her leave and Sampoorna hides herself as she witnessed everything that happened between the couple from behind the study door. She runs to her room and starts crying as she was feeling hurt listening to what Anirudh said to Bondita.

Sampoorna thinks that she did exactly what Bondita does, she made the exact same coffee for Anirudh as Bondita taught her, keeping in mind every small detail but still he recognised that it was not Bondita who made it for him, how? And what is the other habit he was talking about? I'll find out. Pulling herself together she made her way to Bondita's room to get to know more about Anirudh and his preferences.
