The door slammed. The rain was still pounding on the roof. It had been disgusting outside for 3 days, and it was so bad that school was cancelled. "Hey J.D.," I yelled, flicking through Amazon. "How was Seven Elev... where's your shoe?"
Because J.D. was dressed in his usual gray and black, but one of his gray combat boots was gone. Instead, his sock was soaked through and caked in mud.
"The giant mud puddle down the road demanded a sacrifice." He stared at be with a straight face. That was something he had always been good at, keeping a straight face.
I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms in my blanket. "Take off your shoe and socks. You can't get in the blanket if you're wet." He slipped off his coat, shoes, and socks. "Now, what's this about a giant puddle demanding a sacrifice?"
"You're dating me, love; if I can't murder, I have to get my eccentricities out somehow." Heather had choked on drain cleaner and Kurt and Ram were shot before J.D. saw what he had done. The four weeks of therapy he had to go to were a struggle, but in the end, they were alright. A strange love of horror movies and the occasional losing of a shoe to a mud puddle, but they were mostly alright.
"What are we watching?" he asked, settling in beside me. He leaned into my warmth. He was near freezing. I hummed, dropping my head onto his shoulder.
"I don't know yet," I told him. He twirled some of my hair around his finger, smiling softly. "Something 60s... Bonnie and Clyde?" I knew that we were both remembering when I had called us Bonnie and Clyde, yelling at J.D. in the bathroom about all the things we had done.
"Why not?" he said with a lazy smile. He reached over me and took a couple pieces of popcorn, juggling them with a cocky smile before popping them all in my mouth.
I rolled my eyes again, turning the volume up just the right amount, so the rain was just barely able to be heard.
This was what high school was supposed to be. Just two seventeen year old's watching movies on a rainy day. No popularity fights. No murders. Just a boyfriend and girlfriend on a perfect day.
