After talking to Ayan and Aryan, Zoya returned home. Seeing them was more painful than she expected. She doesn't blame them for what happened a year ago. Not anymore. But that feeling that she always had, when she was with them, has flooded in tenfold the moment she saw them. This is exactly what she tried to avoid last year. But now she has more important things to focus on. After the first day of school, came weekend. The official classes start from Monday. Zoya spent the Saturday totally one the paperwork for the contract she made a week ago and studying the marketing graphs of Akhtar's winery sector. The winery is the oldest and the weakest of Akhtar's company. That's exactly why Zoya's concentrating on it. Their cosmetics sector "crimson" is one of the most profitable areas and needs no supervision. Winery is where they get a lot of money but also spends a lot. That is why she needs a new plan to promote the products. After going through it for a whole day, Zoya falls asleep on the couch in her dad's study. But even in her dreams, she couldn't get rid of the shadows. They always chase her.
Her feet hurt from running and her knee bleeds from the gunshot. The pain is so overwhelming that her body starts to go numb. She can bear with it as long as she's alive. She remembers just how happy she was a few days ago. In the cherry blossom field, she can remember the fragrance like she was there yesterday. It was there that everything took a turn in her life. The light streaming through branches gives the air around her a pinkish glow. The ring on her hand resembles the smile on her face. If she was to name the happiest moment of her life, she doesn't remember it Because she was consumed by the present happiness. She lifts her face to meet her eyes with him. Veer. He smiles back at her but a moment later his eyes go wide. Before she could comprehend what's happening, a hand goes around her shoulder, holding her in place as something stings the base of her neck. She struggles against the hand holding her but within seconds, she can feel her body being drained of its energy. Slowly, her head tilts back and everything goes black.
She wakes up startled from her sleep, trying to catch her breath. These dreams followed her through the year. These dreams used to keep her awake and afraid but now they only wake her up, serving as a reminder for her goal. Since, she was back in town the dreams became clearer. As if she is reliving it.
The next day, Zoya couldn't help but go to the blossom field. For the past few days, her mother was nowhere to be found. She's probably off to some trip, trying to spent as much money as she can. If she's too careless, she's going to be met with a surprise. As she was walking around the field, she realized something. Though this is the place that traumatized her for the past year, being here, she, somehow, felt calm. Calmer than she's been since arriving here. She walks up to the biggest tree in the field. This is where it happened. She lifts her head to look at the beautiful branches that accompany the bark of the tree. It's huge but not intimidating. In fact, it makes you feel at ease. Zoya stood there for who knows how long until she finally had her fill. She turns around to leave only to be met with a pair of dark brown eyes. How does she know they're brown? Because she knows the person who does. Veer Chahal. It has been a year yet he hadn't changed much. Although, he looks more mature. She wonders how long he's been standing there. Why is he here? Was this a coincidence? She thinks. But she makes sure that none of her thoughts show on her face. She stays as expressionless as night as she makes her way across and past him. She was two feet past him when his hand shot out and held her hand, stopping her from moving further away from him.
She turns her head to look at him face-to-face. Veer didn't expect her to be here. He heard she got back in town. Also heard her plan from Ayan and Aryan. They would do anything for her. So, would I. He thought. She looks more beautiful than she used to be. Or is it just because I haven't seen her all this time, he thinks. He wanted to visit the field for this is the place he last saw her smile. Seeing her here made him think. Is she here for the same reason as me? That this is the last place we were happy together? Or was it because this is where... everything went wrong? He couldn't help but wish she still has feelings for him. Because he does. But as he looks into her eyes, there is nothing there but two dark shallow holes. No smile. No warmth. That's when he realized that he lost much more than just her trust. She lifts her other hand and removes his hand from hers. All without a twitch in her expressionless face. She turns around and leaves. He didn't say a word. He doesn't have to. She didn't turn around. She doesn't have to. And as the sun sets on the horizon, they grew further and further apart.
***Dear readers,
I know I have no time sense. I say I'll publish every Sunday but I never do. I am sorry. I am a student and it's difficult for me to complete the story in time. all I can say is I'll try my best to publish the next part on time. please, have patience. also, I haven't gotten any comments for improvement. it either means my narration needs no improvement or it's just so plain that you don't know where to give me pointers. or... it's simply bad. so, I can only hope to get a response to this chapter at the least.
yours,
Janvi Siya.
