I've been writing Sunday Pancakes for a very long time, but I have just started editing the entire story. This is the rest of the story, which is almost complete. It is unedited, so there are many corrections to be made, and some of what happens in this part of the story may contradict what happens in the beginning of the story that has already been edited.

The next morning I had grains of sand in my mouth and stuck to my body, but it didn't damper my mood. For the first time in almost a year, I was excited to wake up, not afraid of what the day might bring. I sat up quickly, pushing myself up onto my feet with my hands, and checked my alarm clock. It was 1:26. According to the daylight outside, it must be p.m. I turned on my phone and quickly sent a text to Hadley.

LUCY: Hi! It's Lucy

The screen on my phone went dark after a few seconds, but quickly lit up again, buzzing. I beamed.

HADLEY: Hey! I just added you to my contacts. What's up?

LUCY: Just woke up...don't usually sleep this late, I guess I was tired.

HADLEY: ha! Don't worry I woke up 2 hours ago, which is pretty late.

I decided to make my first bold move in weeks.

LUCY: Wanna hang out sometime soon?

HADLEY: Definitely! Can't today though L I have to babysit

LUCY: How about tomorrow?

HADLEY: Sure! Not meaning to invite my own guests but...do you think Tyler could come? He has a way of feeling left out every time I do something without him.

LUCY: Hehe, yes he can come J My house 12:30? I live on Conner Road, house number 8.

HADLEY: Works for me J

LUCY: See ya there!

HADLEY: Yup! Bye!

LUCY: Bye!

I childishly squealed in delight. I was actually making friends! I padded off to my bathroom, which I had learned was a jungle of white marble and tile. Everything in this house seemed white and soft, and I loved the beach-y feel of it, especially when the sun shone through the back wall of windows downstairs and cascaded onto the hardwood floors. It felt like I was in the house of angels.

I blasted the shower, waiting for it to get warm. When it finally did I slipped in and let the hot water sooth me and calm my nerves. When I was finished after forty minutes, I wrapped myself in a fluffy towel and ran a comb throw my limp reddish-brown hair. I changed into a baggy tee shirt and short fabric shorts and headed downstairs.

"I'm going to run out to the grocery store. Want to come? I only have to pick up a few ingredients for dinner" My mom asked, not taking her eyes off the chives she was chopping.

"Sure. I don't have anything else to do." I responded.

"Oh, you make me feel so special," my mom teased. I smile and hop onto a kitchen stool.

"So, what 'cha making?" I asked.

"Chicken and baked potatoes." She grinned, pulling out a tray from a high cabinet.
