James came back with a pale of water and two rabbits. "Wow! How did you get them so fast?" I said curiously.
"Wasn't that hard. Just need to be very quiet. So we need to make a fire, we can't eat rabbit raw. Do you want me to start the fire?" He said
" actually I can start it" I replied.
"Huh well ok then" he laughed. I knew he didn't believe I could do it but I've been doing it for two years.
I grabbed some dry grass, a strait piece of would, and a stick. I put the stick on top and started twisting really fast. After about 3 minutes, I started to see smoke. I put the ashes on the dry grass and blew lightly. The fire soon started growing bigger so I put the dry grass on the sticks James had set up.
"Wow! I guess you can start a fire." James stated.
"I think I've gotten pretty good over the last two years."
"How old are you?" He asked
"Sixteen" I said. "How old are you?" I asked.
"Seventeen." He smiled at me. 'That's why he looks familiar! He looks like my brother... But he's not.' I thought to myself. At that thought I felt really sad. "Hey what's wrong?" James questioned.
"Nothing it's just, you remind me of my brother, I don't even think he's alive anymore." I stated to cry. I put my face in my hands and sobbed. I felt two arms around me. James pulled me into a hug. I leaned my head on his chest until I stopped crying.
James started to cook the meat while I boiled the water on a separate fire. Once the rabbit was done I took the water from the fire and set it down to cool. He gave me one of the animals and we both ate. It tasted like heaven! I haven't eaten in over three days! The juices from the rabbit dripped down my chin.
"Thank you!" I said to James cheerfully.
"Oh no problem remember I said we are gonna stick together and help each other. Well this is helping!" We both laughed. Then the strangest thing happened. I herd a moan coming from the woods.
"Shit! I thought those were gone! Hurry, put out the fire out! But take the water and food! Come on we gotta get out of here!" James seemed very worried.
"What's going on!" I said as I grabbed the food and water. He grabbed my hand and we started to run. We ended in a cave about two minutes from were we just were. "What's going on!" I repeated in a whisper.
"That moan you herd was from a very sick human who has a terrible disease, ill explain more later. I don't know how many there are." He replied. Outside the cave the moans were getting louder and I could here there was more than one of them! James pulled me closer and I rapped my arms around him. He and I were so skinny that we barely took up space in the small cave. One of the monsteras human things were right out side the cave! It started to walk into the cave. I squeezed James even harder than before.
"On the count of three we run!" Said James "one...two...three!" We sprinted out of the cave. James was out and I was right behind him. Suddenly the monster grabbed my arm and pulled me down! "AAhh!" I screamed as I hit the hard floor. The monster climbed on top of me. Pinning me down. "HELP! James help!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Kicking and throwing punches. Nothing worked the monster would not budge.
Suddenly dime thing hit it that made it let loose for just a second enough for me to escape. I ran towards James.
"C'mon!" We ran about 45 mins with little breathers im between. Finally we came to a stop. "I think we're safe." Said James.
"Again, thank you for saving me from that beast." I told him. All he did was stand up and pull me into a hug.
"No need to thank me." He said. Then something happened. He looked my in the eye...and kissed me!
