I froze in shock. I didn't know what to say. I was scared to say something stupid but I had to say something.
"I...I...I love you to!" I managed to slip out. But we've only know each other 3 1/2 days. I'm only 16! Is this right?
"Hey, it's okay. We'll take it slow I promise!" He said. It made me feel so much better!
"But I have one question, what if those things come back!" I started to sob. "I'm sorry I'm acting like a child! I'm ju-" he cut me off.
"Hey! It's ok. My biggest promise to you, is to protect you no matter what happens! I'll say it again, I love you and I will protect you until I die! And just remember we are forever and never alone. We have each other and that's all that matters!" I hugged him. I buried my face in his shirt and I know I soaked it with tears. I looked up and through my sobbing I managed to say what I knew now was true.
"I love you to!" I was shocked I said that. We stayed in a hug for a few minutes after. When we let go I went to get more fresh water and he went for food. We met back 15 minutes later. He had gotten a rabbit and a...rat!
"Why did you get a rat?" I asked.
"I couldn't find anything else. If you don't want it you can have the rabbit instead. I've eaten rat before it's not terrible." He replied.
"No it's ok maybe it will do me good to try something new!" I said cheerfully.
I set the fire and boiled the water then he cooked the meat. He handed me the rat. I pulled a piece of meat and took a small bite. It tasted almost like the rabbit. "Oh this is actually not that bad!" I said.
"Ya I know it kind tastes like the rabbit." We talked and ate. James kept getting closer and closer to me. Finally he was right there. He leaned in for a kiss. But something made him stop. A voice.
"Help! Someone please help!" I got up and ran into the woods after the voice. I knew that voice. My childhood memories the memories of the terrible accident all came rushing back.
"Jessabell wait!" James called after me. He started sprinting towards me. I came to a stop when I reached the person calling for help.
"Mom?"
