★彡𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒖𝒆;
the problem with forever.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
MINUTES TURNED INTO HOURS, hours turned into days, days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Time seemed to just drag on, but with every second Genevieve Le Claire's state only seemed to get worse. Nothing was working, no medicine that any earth fairy came up with helped, there was nothing that was going to be able to fix her. It was something that Rosalie had to, and had been preparing herself for from the moment their family discovered what was happening. She had been eleven at the time of the diagnosis, only there was no actual scientific diagnosis for what was wrong with her mother.
She appears to be dying, but we are unsure as to why. That was what the doctors had told her father, and it seemed to be a sentence Rosalie pondered on a lot more than an eleven year old should have. How could they not know what was wrong with her mother? How could they not have the answers? They were supposed to be the ones that knew what was happening, they were supposed to be the ones that would fix her so that she could raise Rosalie and her baby brother, Will, to see them grow up.
Rosalie's father always liked to tell her that she was different, that she didn't think like most eleven year olds. This was something she believed to be true, but only because she didn't know anyone who was going through anything she was. None of her friends would understand because none of her friends even knew what was happening. It was a secret she had kept so hidden that she had kept it from the person she trusted most, her best friend, Sky.
Why? Well that was a simple answer: he had more important things to worry about. Unlike Rosalie, Sky was born into the royal family, he was born the Prince of Eraklyon. He had his daily duties that he had to attend to, and she didn't want his thoughts to be stuck on her of all things. She didn't want him to worry.
But soon things got even worse, her father who had once been at home most of the day to help his wife and children was promoted to the royal guard, which meant that he didn't have that free time anymore. He wasn't allowed to leave early to help his daughter anymore, and he wasn't allowed to be there in his wife's dwindling moments.
And when that fateful day finally rolled around Rosalie was far from ready. How could she say goodbye to someone who was supposed to watch her grow up? How could she say goodbye to the only female figure in her life? It was that day that changed Rosalie's perception of the world, and opened her eyes to just how cruel it could actually be. This didn't happen because of the Burned Ones, this happened because the world was unkind to kind people.
Rosalie didn't have time to grieve the loss of her mother, she had to focus on Will, who was just short of his fourth birthday. She didn't have time to grieve because she was too busy trying to console her father when he got home to find his then-deceased wife and his children. She didn't have time to grieve because she was too busy packing hers and Will's bags so they could flee Eraklyon later that night. She didn't have time to grieve because she was too busy trying to distract herself so she couldn't.
Sky. She couldn't bring herself to write her goodbye to him, it would break her facade. She didn't have time to mope over the idea of never seeing her best friend again because deep down she knew it was the best. After this, he would have experienced a different side of her. One she didn't want him to see. It was for the best that they had planned on leaving.
That was the day Rosalie discovered the problem with the word forever: no matter how many times you said it or dreamed about it, forever didn't exist. Nobody was promised their own forever, and nobody was prepared when they lost someone who was supposed to be apart of their own.
