CH28: LANTERNS

It had been quite a while since Taehyung had started driving towards the unknown. Jeungguk still had no idea of where they are headed to. He had tried to question the other, but he didn't get any answer. So he left it at that.

They were enjoying the ride with music and jams as Taehyung made their way to the destination. Another ten minutes and finally the car reached to a stop. "We have arrived?" Jeungguk asked as he saw Taehyung get off from the other side.

Taehyung only nodded as he opened the door for Jeungguk to get out as well. He finally got time to look around and take in the surroundings. They were in a small town. There seemed to be a festival going on there.

Everyone were wearing the traditional clothes and had lanterns in their hands. They all seemed to be waiting for something. And that's when he noticed Taehyung also come out, having two lanterns in his hands. "Come on. Lets go!"

He noticed that the elder was in a hurry. He couldn't question why as Taehyung was already far ahead. How did he reach there that fast? He wondered, as he also seemed to push and pull his way through the crowd as he now stood beside Taehyung.

They were standing in front of what seemed like a house. Taehyung just strode past the entrance as if it were his own. "whose house is this?" he asked Taehyung as he also slowly made his way into the house along with Taehyung.

Taehyung only smiled at that and signalled the other to keep following. Jeungguk sighed as he still hadn't gotten the answer to his questions but regardless decided to follow the other inside.

When Taehyung finally came to a stop, Jeungguk noticed that they were no longer alone in the house. There stood Jimin, Yoongi, Jin and another man. He didn't seem familiar in any sense to him.

"That is Hobi hyung." He heard Taehyung say as he proceeded to hug the one's present one-by-one. the mentioned 'Hobi hyung' seemed a little too excited while hugging Taehyung and Jeungguk wasn't liking it much. But to his dismay, he stayed quite and didn't tell anything about it.

As Taehyung had hugged everyone, he looked to see Jeungguk staring back at him. there was an unreadable emotion and there also seemed to be glint in the eyes. One that he didn't seem to recognise. He questioned the other as to what had happened and the reply sure was a shock to him.

"You didn't hug me." Jeungguk had stated and that was how he had received a tight hug from Taehyung, once the elder had come out of the shock. That's when Jeungguk noticed that someone was missing. Yoongi hyung.

"Where is Yoongi hyung?" he asked Taehyung. But the reply came from Hobi instead. "He doesn't know what he is here for?" at which Taehyung shook his head.

Jeungguk frowned at that. What was going on?

"You should tell him. he seems really confused. Also, muscles, don't worry. Hobi is not a threat to you. He is my younger brother." Jin had voiced out. It did subside a little of Jeungguk's worries, but he was yet to know the answers anyway.

"In all due time." The short reply came from Taehyung. This put Jeungguk at the very end of his nerves. He looked at Jimin for help but his brother only smiled the sweet smile he had. It was for assurance.

"also you will meet Yoongi hyung in a while. Don't worry." Taehyung had added along as he made his way to what seemed like the backyard of the house.

"jiminie. Whose house is it?" Jeungguk asked Jimin secretly. Hoping to get an answer. And he finally got it. "It is theirs. The three brothers. They brought it to escape from their harsh life. They come here to spend quality time with one another."

Jeungguk smiled at that. That seemed like a good idea. Maybe he should try it with Jimin. but then something else struck his head. "If it is only for the brothers, then why are we here?"

Jimin smiled and shook his head this time. "This boy." he muttered before he looked back to Jeungguk. "Jin is here because he is Namjoon's husband. Hoseok is here because he is Jin's brother and is also Tae's close friend." He saw his brother frown at that and chuckled inwardly. He didn't mention it though. "I am here because I am Yoongi's boyfriend."

Jeungguk nodded his head as a matter of fact. Close friend, husband, boyfriend and brother. He understood all their presence in the place. "But then what am I doing here?" he snapped his eyes to Jimin as he finally got the right question in his head.

"That you should ask my soulmate only." Jimin said as he patted Jeungguk on the shoulder and walked off towards the backyard where Taehyung was.

He saw Hobi hyung approach him. "Hi! I am Hoseok but commonly called as Hobi. I am Taehyung's and Jimin's close friend since college! Also, Jin told me to mention that Tae and I have nothing going on between us. I am straight as a stick. Hope we get along." He then smiled as he outstretched his hand towards Jeungguk.

The smile was too blinding to not return. And so Jeungguk did. he returned it and felt that this hyung was also not much of a threat as he extended his own hand and took in Hobi's.

"Come on. We should go the backyard now. it is almost time." Hobi said as he ushered Jeungguk to come along with him. that was when Jeungguk had noticed that the sun had set and now the sky was almost midnight blue.

He went out and saw everyone standing with the lanterns in their hand. Taehyung asked him to come towards him as he handed him one of the lanterns. "Take this and stand beside me. we have to leave it together so keep it ready okay?"

Jeungguk could only nod and started unfolding the lantern and keeping it in the proper manner. He finished just on time as he looked up to the sky to see one lantern now flying. It had been released from the castle that was a little further from the house they were standing in.

Taehyung tapped him and told him to light his lantern as well. They did and they all left it together. They stood there beside one another as they watched the lanterns they left fly peacefully. Their lanterns were followed by many other lanterns from all across the town. The view was very mesmerizing as each lantern flew further away and above. They watched them till the lanterns became one with the stars.

In this short time, Jeungguk hadn't noticed the arrival of Yoongi. Neither did he notice that Taehyung had sneaked his hand into his own. So they stood there watching the lanterns while holding hands.

"Taebaby. We are leaving. You will come with Jeungguk tomorrow right?" he heard a voice and had finally noticed Yoongi. The one he was oddly waiting for. He saw Taehyung nod from his peripheral views and felt something tighten around his arms.

He had now noticed Taehyung's hand in his and squeezed it to make sure he wasn't dreaming. A slight hiss from Taehyung confirmed that he wasn't. But this only confused him more. What on earth is going on?

"Why are they leaving?" he asked Taehyung. "You can leave if you want to as well." Taehyung said, instead of actually replying to Jeungguk. He had let go of the younger's hand and went further into the middle of the backyard.

Now that Jeungguk missed the other's warm hand, he also rushed forward and took it into his own. "Why would I leave when you are here?" he asked. It may sound cheesy. But it was just the simple truth according to Jeungguk.

Why would he leave his soul and carry only his body back to a place where it didn't belong? It belonged right here. In the hands of Taehyung. The ethereal light that even a thousand lanterns couldn't compare to.
