i. don't say "hello"

"Milkyway? Are you there?"

At the sound of her name the tiny kit whipped her head to the side, looking back from her thin, wiry shoulders. Her gaze landed upon another kit, a black tabby, and she blinked. "Yeah? I was just looking at the thing." She flicked her short tail at the log that lay just in front of the cave entrance, "It's weird, Dipper. Heavy, too."

"It is." Dipper nodded, and then slowly approached his younger sibling. He gave her a small lick between the ears, to which she returned with a warm smile.

"You don't think she did this on purpose, do you?" Milkyway suddenly meowed. Dipper noticed her weary expression. "Mother always said she was nice and caring to all the animals."

Dipper had a moment of silence, white tipped whiskers flicking. He was unsure of what to say. "Maybe she had to," the kit said. "Maybe someone forced her against her will."

"Why would they do that?"

Dipper was silent once again, looking down at the floor with his mouth closed.

"They probably hate us then," Milkyway said. The fur along her spine prickled, and a frown made its way onto her face. "Mother did do some bad things."

"But even so, she did it to protect us."

Dipper and Milkyway whipped around at the sudden voice, but they soon relaxed as to seeing the familiar creamy pelt of their older sister. Instinctively the kits bowed their heads in respect. "Welcome back, Stellar," they murmured. Steller hmmphed and turned away, lifting her nose into the air in an obnoxious manner.

"We've been looking, don't worry," Dipper reassured. "It seems like there's an small entrance located in that back corner, but I can't--"

"Mother doesn't like it."

Dipper stepped back slightly at Stellar's response. He exchanged glances with Milkyway. "What are you talking about?" the white she-kit asked, looking up at the taller kit. Her ocean-blue eyes swirled in confusion, "Mother is--"

"She doesn't like it," Stellar interrupted. "Mother hates the dark; she feels trapped."

"But she's not--"

In an instant Milkyway was flung to the other side of the wall, and she released a cry of surprise. Dipper stiffened as he watched the scene between his two siblings. Has she returned at last? he thought, green eyes flashing.

"Stellar, that hurt!" Milkyway whimpered, "Stop it!" But Stellar ignored the younger kit. The cream cat's eyes darkened and she gritted her teeth down at the younger kit.

"Don't you dare talk about her like that," Stellar snarled. Milkyway cowered in fear of the older kit. After that, silence came, which made Dipper become uneasy. Suddenly the tom yelped in surprise as a small weight crashed into him, and he fell down onto his haunches.

"Stellar, stop!" Dipper wailed, looking down at the injured Milkyway. Few tufts of fur were missing and small scratches showed on her flank. "You're hurting her!"

The cream tabby shook her pelt and then narrowed her amber eyes. "All traitors must be punished!"

Dipper flattened his white-tipped ears. She had definitely came back. But what did she want from them? Shaking his head Dipper said, "But she didn't do anything! We were in this stupid cave the whole--"

In a flash sharp fangs met his scruff, and the tom bit his tongue to keep from crying out. "S-Stellar..."

As if on cue Dipper was suddenly dropped back onto the ground. He squeaked as he clumsily landed on his paws, legs slightly shaky. The tom was relieved Stellar had done nothing but leave deep bite markings on his skin.
