Ellie I

Ellie was a young girl at the age of 14. She absolutely loved animals - she always had. She had begged her mom for a puppy ever since she was little, but she was never allowed one. Little did she know, on one fateful birthday, her life would change forever...

It was March 2019, her 14th birthday. Ellie had gone to the beach with her parents, Laura and Dan - and of course her best friend, Benji. The two friends ran off to the sea as soon as they walked onto the sand.

Ellie ran straight into the waves, Benji following close behind.
"Careful," Benji warned, "You'll hit a mermaid if you run any faster!" Ellie looked to him with a smile.
"Mermaids aren't real," she laughed. "Everyone knows that."

But it was almost as if this were a Wattpad story, because just then, a little mermaid with short grey hair popped her head out of the water, her shiny silver tail just barely visable under the shallow waves.

"Ellie Ellington," she spoke with a calm, soft voice, "Take this, and do not let anyone, other than you, see what's inside." The mermaid handed Ellie a small box with a few holes in the lid. "This is the year 2019, yes? Next year will be a dificult one... Keep this box, and don't open it until the clock strikes midnight on new years eve."

Ellie carefully held the box in her hand, wondering what could be inside.
"Miss? What's your name?" she asked the mermaid, who simply replied,
"I have to go. Goodbye, Ellie!" and then she swam off, never to be seen again.

Benji splashed Ellie with water and laughed as he walked up beside her.
"Who were you talking to?" He asked. Ellie shrugged.
"Just some girl who lost her purse in the water. She found it, though." Ellie shoved the box in her jacket pocket after she told her friend that it was just a sandwhich.
