Months had passed (9 specifically) and it was finally new years eve. Ellie was home with her parents, Laura and Dan, and her big sister Sarah.
Ellie celebrated the end of 2019 with a bit of alcohol and fun, watching the fireworks outside her window. Once she rembered the words of the mermaid, though, she shot upstairs to go and get the box she was given.
It was a small, dark, wooden box, and it had been sat on Ellie's bookshelf since her birthday in March. She took it off of the top shelf, locked her bedroom door and sat down at the desk with it. She slowly took off the lid.
Inside the box was a guinea pig! It was white with a few orange-ish spots here and there.

There was a small note stuck to the inside of the lid. Ellie slowly picked it up and mumbled the words aloud, still in a bit of shock.
'Ellie, This is George. He's a guinea pig. I know a guinea pig is the last thing you'd expect from a Mermaid you saw on the beach. Let me explain.
My name is Julia. I'm a Mermaid. You see, I'm a Mermaid scientist. But... I wish I wasn't... Down here, we have a cruel lab. Their company goes by the name of 'L.A.B., Long Anus Boob'. They say they come out with new medicine and cures for deadly diseases, but... that's simply not true. The drugs they make... the vaccines... they're all made out of guinea pigs...
I couldn't save them all, but I could save this one. I've trapped air inside this box using my magic, and I essentially put him to sleep all these months... Please, take good care of George. And whatever you do, don't try to save me.
