After embarking on their own paths, Lan Wangji headed back towards Cloud Recesses. It hurt to see the man he loved walk away, but in the end it was kind of a relief, knowing that Wei Wuxian was happy. Who knows, maybe they will see each other again.

Three years have gone by, Wangji was out doing his morning routine, when just a little ways into the forest, he heard something. A flute? Wei Ying? He thought. He went to find the source of the sound. He stopped at a tree, looked up only to see a young boy resting on a branch, playing a white flute with a green tassel. The boy stopped playing, about to hop down, saw Lan Wangji, surprised, he fell off the other side. Wangji rushed to help him,

"Are you alright?" He asked the young man lying on the ground.

"I think so," the young man replied.

Wangji helped him to his feet, helped dust him off, walked over to the flute and picked it up. Upon examination he realized it looks almost identical to Wuxian's, except for the tassel.

"Gege...?" The boy said curiously.

"Hmm..?" Wangji realized that he still held the flute, shook his head, then returned it to the boy.

After a minute looking the boy up and down, Wangji realized the boy was a desciple of Cloud Recesses. Wangji began to walk back to the jingshi to finish what he had started. The boy followed. When they returned Lan Xichen just so happened to be walking past, he stopped and greeted them.

Xichen, "Tan Liang, have you finished your studies?"

Wangji looked at the boy, Liang, and he was looking at everything around them trying to avoid the question.

"Tan Liang."

"Hmm..?" Replied Liang.

"Have you finished your studies?" Xichen asked with a smile, because he knew the answer.

"I found him in a tree, playing a flute," stated Wangji.

Xichen let out a sigh.

"Wangji. Can you take him back, and make sure he finishes?" Asked Xichen.

Wangji nodded, putting his hand on the boy's shoulder leading him away. As they were walking they passed the gardens, Liang seen the rabbits and walked over to them. The boy sat on the grass, watching the rabbits hop around. Wangji watched Liang play with the rabbits, a smile appeared on his face. It felt as if Wuxian was still here. Wangji realized they had been there longer than they should have, he took the bunny out of the boy's hand, grabbed the boy by his arm and pulled him back to the library pavilion.

Hours passed as the two were sitting in the library pavilion, dusk was settling in, Liang was getting tired, and Wangji could tell. He walked over to Liang.

"I think you should rest," Wangji said.

"I'm almost done," yawned Liang.

Xichen walked in.

"A-Liang, it's time you went to rest." Said Xichen.

"Just a little while longer?" Liang asked.

"I admire your enthusiasm for working hard, but if you work too hard, you will become ill. Ask Wangji." Said Xichen. Liang yawned, realizing he can't go any further, he nodded closing his books, putting his papers in a neat pile. They went to their rooms to lay down.

The next morning Cloud Recesses had visitors, Wangji and Xichen went to greet them.

"Master Jiang, Young master Jin, what brings you to Gusu?" Asked Xichen.

"Jin Ling was hoping to go night hunting with the disciples." Stated Jiang Cheng rolling his eyes.

Not far from them, Liang stood behind a tree, looking at the four of them. He looked away thinking, he looked back and one of them was gone. He looked curiously at the three that were left trying to figure out where the last one went.

"Looking for something?" A voice from behind Liang asked.

Liang let out a small shriek, jumping out from behind the tree surprising the three men.

"A-Liang?" Xichen asked looking at the boy.

"He was spying on us from behind the tree," stated Jin Ling.

Liang walked over to Wangji and Xichen, bowing to Jiang Cheng.

"A-Liang, would you like to go night hunting with Jin Ling and the others?" Asked Xichen.

The boy nodded.

"Ahh... I also got word that Sizhui is coming back today. Maybe you could ask him if he'd like to join you." Xichen said.

A couple of hours passed, Sizhui had just arrived along with a taller man with dark clothing. Liang went to greet them. After dinner, it was discussed who was  all going.

"Why does he have to go?" Whined Jin Ling.

Sizhui, "Because, he's the only family I have left."

Jin Ling sighed and crossed his arms, "Fine." He said.

Wangji had decided to go with as well. When they made it to the forest, they decided to split up, drawing sticks and pairing into groups of two. Liang got paired with the mysterious man in black, his name was Wen Ning, otherwise known as the ghost general. The two walked for a little while, but didn't see any thing.

"Wait," Wen Ning said grabbing Liang's hand.

Liang looked down at his hand surprised, then looked at Wen Ning. Next thing Liang seen was A-Ning's hand in front of his face, he looked at it and realized that A-Ning was holding an arrow, he stopped it from hitting Liang. Wangji shown up, out of know where, as if he was following them. He took the arrow from A-Ning examined it, then looked in the direction it came from, back at the arrow, then back up again.

"What is it gege?" A-Liang asked.

Just then, the Bai twins came running their way, Bai Cheng and Bai Lan, don't be confused with the girl names, they are indeed boys.

"Oh, Hanguang-Jun," The Bai twins say in unison.

"What did you see?" Asked Wangji.

"We don't know, we didn't see anything just arrows flying at us." Said Bai Lan.

"Oh, hello Li....ang," Bai Cheng said as he looked down and noticed that Wen Ning was still holding Liang's hand.

Wangji realized and looked as well. Liang seen what everyone was looking at, pulled his hand away, a light shade of pink flushed over his cheeks. Another arrow was shot, heading straight for Liang, again.

"Watch out!" Wen Ning called as he pushed Liang out of the way.

The arrow scraped A-Ning's arm, Liang seen this and rushed to help. Another arrow had been shot, heading for Liang, Wangji pulled out his sword and stopped the arrow.

"Hanguang-Jun, Hanguang-Jun!" Called Sizhui as him and Jin Ling came over.

"What happened to Ning gege?" Ask Sizhui.

"I'm fina A-Yuan," A-Ning said as he looked at the boy.

"Who or whatever it is, is aiming for A-Liang." Said Bai Lan.

"We should go, now!" Shouted Jin Ling.

Once when all the disciples were gathered, they made it back to Cloud Recesses. Xichen rushed out to see what the commotion was. A-Yuan and A-Liang came carrying A-Ning in, even though the arrow hit his arm, he lost quite a bit of blood and became dizzy.

Later that night Wangji went out for a night stroll, still confused about what happened during the night hunt. Why A-Liang? Why was he the target? Was the only thing going through his head. He then hear the flute once again, he knew it was Liang, he got out his guqin and played along. After a while the flute stopped mid note, this concerned Wangji, he went to see why. He walked, unaware of where Liang was, then in the silence, came a voice.

"Aww, Lan Zhan, did you really replace me with this child?"

Wei Wuxian was standing there with his arm over Liang's shoulder, spinning the white flute with the other.

To be continued.
