(Skip forward to the 4th of July)
Jackie's POV

Ham and I sat on a bench with the rest of the boys. Benny went up to Smalls's house to get him for our night game. Every year on the 4th of July, we have a night game the light from the fireworks always gives us enough light to play. It made us feel like we were in the big leagues, we felt like big shots every time we played under lights.

"Alright let's go. Yeah-Yeah you have the radio?" Benny asked.

Yeah-Yeah nodded. Benny told him to bring a portable radio for tonight, I don't really know why though. I saw DeNunez and Smalls smirk at each other, they turned to me and said the magic words.

"We're gonna catch Robinson!" they screamed.

I shot out of the picnic our neighborhood has every year and ran toward the sandlot. All the sandlot boys chased after me, I was far ahead they would never catch up.

"Guys! Wait up! Guys!" my brother shouted while getting a hot dog.

(play song now)

Once we made it to the sandlot, we were all winded. We based up and got ready to play, I was playing catcher tonight while Ham played third, we left the catcher's gear at home. DeNunez pitched the ball to Benny. Crack! The ball flew into the air just as the fireworks started to go off. We looked up to catch the ball by were distracted by the amazing fireworks. Benny on the other hand jogged around the bases and made it to home.

"Woah," I heard Smalls say.

Benny ran over to the dugout and turned on the radio, a song played that I didn't recognize. I honestly didn't care, the fireworks were amazing, all the boys except Benny were looking up. Benny grabbed my hand and pulled me over to him. He stared into my eyes and smiled. Without warning, he gently pressed our lips together. It took me by surprise, but I soon found myself kissing Benny back. We pulled apart and stared into each other's eyes for like ever. He had the most beautiful brown eyes anyone could ever have, he smiled at me and held me close.

"I've liked you for a really long time, Jacklyn. You are my everything, and um... will you be my girlfriend?" he asked shyly.

I giggled, "Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez. I would love to be your girlfriend."

He smiled and placed his lips back onto mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck and his hands rested on my hips, our kiss deepened and our lips began to move in sync.

"Woah! Woah! Woah! What just happened?" Squints yelled.

I heard the rest of the boys oo and awed at us. Benny pulled away, then picked me up bridal style. I laughed, I couldn't believe it, I Jacklyn Porter, was Benny's first-ever girlfriend. I was his first kiss, and he was kinda mine.

"Oh nothing, I just kissed Jackie and asked her to be my girlfriend and said yes." He said proudly.

The boys stared at us in shock, and then congratulated us, even my brother. We went on to continue our game and when the fireworks finished we sat in the dugout and talked. I sat on Benny's lap and talked with Yeah-Yeah and Smalls.

"Ham are you ok with Robinson dating Benny man?" Bertrum asked.

"Yea I'm totally cool with it, in fact, I made a bet with DeNunez that they would date, DeNunez you owe me $0.35," Ham said holding out his hand.

DeNunez grumbled and dug into his pocket, he pulled out some money handing it to my brother. Benny hugged me around my waist and kissed my neck softly. I laughed and pushed him playfully.

"BUT! I have one rule for you two. No doin' the nasty when I'm home."Ham said pretending to gag.

The boys laughed and Benny said we wouldn't plus we were too young. I looked at him and he winked. I felt really bad for not telling to boys about what Phillips did after our pool incident. I had to tell them but I didn't want them to hate me. I promised myself I would tell them very soon, maybe I could ask if we could have another campout and tell them then. We continued to sit in the dugout and talk, Timmy and Tommy brought drinks and snacks for us. Around 9 the boys started to leave the sandlot, but Benny told me to wait here, he had something planned for me.
