We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.-Oscar Wilde

Brielle birthday had finally arrived, and the girl was both happy and sad. Happy because this was her first time celebrating with her father, which instantly puts a smile on her face, but also, this would be the first of many that her mother wouldn't be here to celebrate with her. They had a tradition that the two did. Everyday leading up to her birthday her mom would give her a gift each day, then the two would go out a do something fun like get their nails done, or go shopping, or go ice skating and then get something to eat. Then on her actually birthday she would have cake and ice cream and then her and her mother would make the house into a homemade battle field and have a need battle, but what she did on her birthday always changed like last year when her mom suprised her with a trip to London, but now she gets the chance to make new traditions with Charlie.

Brielle was up bright and early, which was unusual since the girl loved to sleep more than anything, but since today was special, she was up and dressed. She wore dark blue skinny jeans, a light pink cropped hoodie, and her all white nikes. She put her hair in a slick back bun and did her makeup. She was putting on lip gloss when her door opened, and her dad walked in with a bag that said happy birthday on it in one hand and two small presents in his other.

"Happy birthday, kiddo." Charlie said as he handed her the bag. She opened the bag to see a large yellow sketchbook, pencils, small canvases, paint brushes, paint, and markers, which were all in the bag."Thank you, dad!" Brielle beamed as she hugged him, her eyes getting teary as she did so. "You deserve it, sweetie." Charlie said,"You got two more from Jacob and Sam Uley."

"Jacob, I understand, but Sam Uley?" Brielle was confused to say the least. Why would Sam, who she barely knows, get her someone he barely knows a gift,"We barely know each other." Brielle said to which Charlie only shrugged,"Guess you made quite an impression on him." Charlie said before leaving his door to open the rest of her gifts.

Brielle opened the gift from Jacob first. It was a small yellow box with a white bow on it and in the corner of the box had her name written on it. Opening the box, a single key on a key fob fell out with a note attached to it.

"Dear Brie, your dad told my dad who told me it was your birthday, so I decided to give you the keys to  the Volkswagen rabbit I'm working on - Jacob."

By the end of the note, Brielle was smiling hard as she stared at the car key in her hand. She had always wanted a car ever since she got her drivers license, and her mom was going to give her one, but then she died. Still smiling, she opened the one from Sam, which was slightly bigger than Jacobs. In the box was a sterling silver wolf howling pendent necklace, and man was it beautiful. Brielle couldn't help but feel when she put the necklace on this weird connection to the necklace like it was meant to protect her from bad things.

She snapped out her thoughts when her door was opened, and Malia and Lola made their way in her room, both holding presents in their hands. "Happy birthday, Rie!" The two girls said in unsion as they attacked their friend in a hug. "Thank you!" She exclaimed as she pulled away from the hugs a blush coating her cheeks. "These are for you." Malia said as her and Lola gave Brielle her birthday presents two medium size squares wrapped in a bow. Brielle opens the first one that was from Malia as a surprised gasp flew out her mouth when she saw the yellow Polaroid camera she had talked about a lot to them, saying how she wished she had one. "Omg! Thank you so much!" She exclaimed, pulling Malia into another hug. "It was no problem, you're my bestfriend of course, I would do this for you." Malia stated shrugged. Smiling, she opened Lola's gift and was met with a throw pillow with all three of their faces on it. "Lola, i love it!" Brielle beamed as she examined her pillow. "We all have matching ones, I figure since we are going to be around each other until we die, we should have something that snapshots our friendship." Lola explained, pulling up a photo of her and Malia's pillows. The three of them hung out in Brielle's room until Lola and Malia had to leave to spend time with their families. "Thank you guys for coming."  Brielle said as she stood outside with them as snow lightly fell around them. "Don't sweat it, you're our girl." Malia smiled as she threw her arm around Brielle. "Text me when you guys get home!" Brielle told them as she watched them get in their cars.

Grinning, she made her way back inside to see her dad in the living room a small round vanilla cake in his hands, as one and seven placed neatly on the cake."Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you." Charlie began to sing as he moved closer to his youngest daughter. "Happy birthday, dear Brielle. happy birthday to you. " he finished thrusting the cake out towards her so she could blow the candles. Making her wish, she blew them out, smiling up at her dad. "I'm going to give Bella a piece of cake." Brielle said as her dad handed her a piece of cake. "Alright, good night!" Charlie called out as she watched her disappear upstairs.

She knocked on Bella's door, and as expected, the girl didn't answer sighing she opened it to see Bella staring out the window. Sitting the piece of cake on the nightstand, she squatted next to Bella and told her about her day even though she knew her sister would respond. To be completely honest, Bella not acknowledging her birthday or her at all hurt her feelings no matter how hard she tried to understand what the oldest swan was going through. Realizing she wasn't going to get a reaction or a response from her, Brielle left the room and went to hers. Crashing on her bed, she yelped as she felt something poke her back. Pulling it from under her, she found a small box with a note attached to it.

I didn't forget about you if that's what you're thinking here is a present to the best and my only sibling, Brielle.
Happy birthday-Bella

Brielle smiled as she opened the present. A small golden ring fell out and on to her lap. She picked it up and slid it onto her ring finger as she gushed at how pretty it was small crystals wrapped around the diamond as it sparkled. Brielle sniffles, feeling a tear or two slip from her eyes and on to her lap. This was the best birthday ever.

She yawned as she felt her eyes shut gently she was exhausted getting up to get ready for bed. She passed her window, not noticing a tiny brown bird watching her closely.

Four women stood in a circle around a glass bowl as they peered into it, watching the youngest swan close her eyes for a  good night's sleep. "Has there been any sign of her powers showing yet, sister?" The oldest out of them asked. "Not yet, but I can feel them trying to escape, but somehow, she's suppressing them." The youngest said as they switched to watching the youngest lahote sleep, her body twisting and turning. "And the lahote?" The middle one asked this time. "She's ready." The four watched as the youngest lahote started glowing a bright blue as a little star pentagram appeared on her shoulder with the elements of air and earth appearing in the middle of the star. "Let the witching hours begin."
