"You did what!?" Lucia exclaims in disbelief, forcing yet another grumble from me. "I can't believe I missed it! Oh, I bet he was fuming."

"And then some," I mutter, rolling my eyes.

After making sure everyone was okay in the hospital, I decided to leave the premises in search of money and other resources to ensure the women and children will be comfortable during their stay. My first stop happened to be Lucia's office - well, my soon to be office if I ever get the title officially. So, that's where I've been for the last twenty minutes, catching her up on the soon to be "latest" gossip. Yay me!

"The worst part in all of this," I continue after a brief pause, "is that Matthew escalated the whole thing. I told him I had everything under control, but he just had to intervene, ignoring my pleas deliberately. It's like he has a death wish or something."

"I don't think that's the reason, sweetie," she says matter-of-factly. "And I, for one, am glad he intervened," I scoffed.

"I know, I know," she continues. "It may not seem like it, but it was all done with the best intentions. And just in case you've forgotten, the last time my brother had his hand around your neck, he damn well nearly killed you. So, yes. I am happy Matthew intervened when he did."

I scoffed. "Of course you are. If there's one thing I've noticed so far, it's that you and he seem to be on the same page about almost everything these days. Especially when I'm involved."

"Well, of course, we would be, sweetie. We're your friends, and you're like my sister. I would be concerned if we didn't have your best interest in mind."

"He could have died!" I scream in complete exasperation. "I don't get why you're both overlooking that fact! I had it all under control. I would have deescalated the entire situation and gotten what I wanted my way. He didn't have to come to my rescue, especially against an overly pissed alpha!"

"Babe, I know you're worried about what could have happened an-"

"What could have happened!? Lucia, they would have killed each other today! They were literally at each other's necks! One wrong move and we would have been planning a fucking funeral today!"

"Whoa there. You can swear?" she jokes, but I'm not in the mood.

"This isn't the time, Luce!" I yell, completely flustered. "What would have happened if Aurelius shifted?"

"He didn't," she responds nonchalantly.

"But what if he did?! What... How..." I stumble on my words, unable to take out the possible outcomes from my head. "He could have died!" I cry out. "And for what!?"

"Oh, sweetie. It would never have gotten to that point," she says while rubbing my arm soothingly. "He would have been stopped before-"

I scoffed. "By who?! The scared ass warriors hiding at the other end of the hallway? The very same warriors who took cover the minute Matthew and Aurelius engaged in a fistfight? If you tell me they were the ones to intervene, then I'm sorry to tell you this, but they were useless."

She creases her brows momentarily, taking in the information I've just told her, then she finally speaks again. "Either way, Matthew can handle himself," she says, shrugging her shoulders.

"He can't even shift, Lucia! I really don't understand why you're taking this so lightly! The only other person who could have stopped anything from happening would have been Dean, but he was nowhere to be seen. At least he would have taken this seriously," I say, muttering the last sentence under my breath, and I know for a fact that she heard my little jab.
