Beneath The Boundaries

Prologue

They say a legacy of once life equals to the steady liberty.

Maybe it is, or maybe it's not. Who knows... Life has always been ran by oppressive authority.

A thumb rule would always state, everything has its own rule. And that rule is made for a common good. Every rule needs to be followed with integrity. And every follower needs to be disciplined by the rule maker.

Funny, I must say. Justice has always been shitty, and the arrogant people above have the privilege to control it.

But this time, it's slowly changing. The table finally turned in the correct direction...

I couldn't help but plastered a wide grin while reading the entire case.

Congressional representative, Da Silva, takes charged over an alleged concealment of evidence of a murder case.

I took a sip of my hot tea while a small smile was covered behind the thick mug. Definetly, not me...

I rested my cheeks above my palms while the other is tapping the table.

"Are you sure about this?" Sol asked, concerned. I chose to not answer her.

She's such a concern freak. What's to be worried about? I'm been waiting for this my whole life. Ngayon pa 'ba ko aatras.

"But Dev, this is risky."

Kumurba ang labi ko. I covered half my mouth with my hand and whispered at her.

"But, it's fun... Ayaw 'mo ba?"

She looks so inconvenient. I couldn't help but mumbled while playing the tip of the tea bag.

"Ayoko 'lang masaktan ka."

"Stop being stupid, Sol. Alam 'mong sobrang tagal kong hinintay ang araw nato."

Ang araw na ako naman ang kayang kumontrol sa batas. I'll make them pay for everything. I'll seek revenge and justify myself. I'll burn them with their own sins. Pagbabayaran nila lahat...

"Hmm." Singhot ko sa mainit na tsaa. "Don't you love it, Sol. Hindi mo makukuha ang hustisya kung hindi ka magmamakaawa, and there are some ignorant people who can manipulate it easily."

"Devorah." banta niya.

I picked up my briefcase and plastered a smirk at her. I know this is risky, but that's what makes the game fun. And nobody can't stop me... not even Sol. Not even my only friend...

"Aalis na'ko... Ayoko silang paghintayin."

...

Everyone is very busy. Telephones were ringing everywhere and people were rushing to accommodate their work. It was a total chaos.

And I like it...

It excites me. I clasp my hand together and cracked joints.

I've been craving to look at these people's states for a very long time.

"Mabuti at nakarating ka, Attorney."

Napalinga ako sa gilid. "Oh, Officer. Castro, alam mo namang hindi ko 'to palalagpasin."

"I'm glad you're back..."

"So am I," I said. A satisfied smile conquer in my lips. I'm back in business, baby.

"I see." his smile was teasing. "Bilin 'na sa loob ng office ka 'na daw paghihintayin."

I annoyingly raised my eyebrow at Officer. Castro, who's face is tight from covering a chuckle. "He's not here?"

I clenched my jaw. Pathetic. How unprofessional. I irately grip my brief case. My patience could never wait for a stack of minutes.

"May inasikaso pa si Chief. Babalik 'din 'yon ng wala pa sa oras. I should guide you through his office."

Hindi na'ko nag-abala 'pang magsalita. I have no choice. This is a client.

He guides me through the walking doors.

Jail is like a dungeon, where criminals are being held captive to separate them from the good people. It's the unsafe zone... but is it, really?

I hate how they fucked up justice system in this country. We are profound, 'innocent until proven guilty', and it's heartbreaking to see these innocent people locked inside this place. It's not that they can't fight for justice, it's just that they don't have the power to fight for it.

Officer. Castro opened the glassed room... Which I assumed, is the chief's office. The blinds were the only thing that's keeping the privacy. Lahat ay gawa sa glass.

"I'll leave you here then," paalam niya.

I politely nodded before he closed the door.

Umupo ako sa natatanging sofa sa loob. The office wasn't that big yet it's also not that small so fit cabinets and furnitures.

It smells like him.

I rolled my eyes.

Marahas akong nagbuntong hininga. Hindi ko alam kung sinasadya niya 'to, but I could never stand waiting for much long. That is why my impatient ass never tried being late. It's disrespectful for other people's time.

Hindi ko nakayanan at tumayo ako. My brief case was sitting on the couch. I wanna roam outside for a bit. To burn time waiting.

I turned the knob to go outside when I accidentally bumped into somebody. I almost couldn't function from the bearable pain in my forehead, when I was face to face with a guy... I've been waiting for ages.

His california eyes were locked on me. It showed no mercy, like a built expression he wear for his profession.

He was wearing a charcoal blue uniform. The police hat was on his hands. I can see my alter reflection on his gold badges. The uniform really suits his built.

"Move, attorney." He eyed me down.

Instead of listening to him. I offered my hand.

"Atty. Sovinna... I'll be your lawyer for this case."

A wide grin slowly formed on my lips when he accepted my hands.

There he is.

The devil in flesh.
