"Actually, can I talk to you later?" I asked kind of awkwardly.

Kai's smile dropped a little, but he replied, "Yeah, no problem. See you later!"

We waved quickly at each other before he turned and walked away.

I wanted to hear what he had to say, but I couldn't just leave Ruben. I mean he probably doesn't know anyone here.

We continued walking down the hall to the commons. He didn't bother trying to start a conversation so I took it upon myself.

"So, do you know your schedule?"

"Yeah."

What the hell. He was so dry. It was like trying to talk to a 5-year-old who only knew 1-word responses, 'yes' or 'no.'

When I placed my hand on the door to the commons, I felt instantly relieved. I could just drop him off and walk away.

However, Georgia was standing on the other side of the door when I pulled it open.

Ah, Georgia, the 'popular' girl. She's a little bitch who I would pay to see get run over by a truck. Everything revolves around her, apparently. Oh, and her facial expressions. Her damn facial expressions are so fucking exaggerated. Like if she sees someone wearing a 'bad' outfit she looks at them like they were shiting in front of everyone.

She instantly looked at Ruben with big eyes. As soon as she noticed his attractive features, she grabbed the bottom of her shirt and pulled it down a bit to show more of her cleavage. Great. But honestly, they'd probably be perfect for each other.

"Hi, I'm Georgia," she said, showing off her perfect teeth.

"Ruben. It's nice to meet you." He said it in the same dry tone he had talked to me in which made me feel better. Maybe that's just the way he talks.

"I haven't ever seen you. Are you new?" She asked, making sure he saw her bright blue eyes and long eyelashes.

I kind of just stood there awkwardly, watching their conversation.

"Yeah," he replied.

Maybe even Georgia won't be able to pull him. I don't think that had ever happened before in the history of Westbrook.

"Oh, cool. I can show you around if you like. I can take it from here Cor."

She smirked disgustedly at me. I didn't bother to send a face back her way.

Jesus, I hated her.

"Actually, I'm good," Ruben said, catching us both off-guard.

Why would he not want to go with her? I looked up at his tall figure to find him looking back down on me. Heat instantly rushed to my cheeks as I quickly looked away.

"Uhm ok, whatever. I'll see you around," Georgia said before walking straight through us. She made sure to step a little towards me to bump shoulders.

My body tilted back from the impact, but it wasn't very hard. I mean, she was pretty weak. But don't get me wrong, she had a great body. I just had more lean muscle, and not to mention, a bigger ass, which of course she hated.

I just stood there, awkwardly looking over my shoulder to watch her walk away.

Maybe I should have just ripped her extensions out right there.

I was too focused on her to notice the silence until Ruben laughed. He laughed as soon as she was out of earshot.

"Did you see the way she pulled her shirt down a little bit?"

My head whipped back to him, trying to process his change in tone. His chuckle sounded so calming, so caring.

Instinctively I slapped my hand over my mouth and laughed with him.

"Most guys fall for it, so props to you."

"Yeah," his laughter died down as quickly as it had started. "This is the commons?" He asked, pointing in the room.

I could feel my eyes wanting to pull away shyly from his, but I forced myself to keep them plastered on him.

"Yeah."

"Ok," he said as he reached for the door, but I realized something. Was I really just going to let him go into a room full of strangers alone. Wouldn't it be nice for me to go and wait during the break with him?

"Have you met anyone yet?" I asked.

"No, but I'll be fine," he said, already turning away from me.

I got the vibe that he didn't want me going in with him, so I just said, "Ok, I'll see you later."

And within just a couple seconds he slipped through the door, only giving me a small, 'see ya' back.

There were more people in the hallway, making me feel super awkward. I always felt like everyone was just staring at me, judging me.

I spun around and walked away from the commons. That was over, I assured myself. I'll probably never have to talk to him again.

"Hey Coral!" Shouted Josie.

My head whipped around to see her bounding up to me, backpack bouncing behind her.

"Where are you going?" She asked, walking with me.
