“Wake up!” My eyes opened as a voice pierced the room, my body jumping out of bed into a crouch as I snarled at the intruder. I could still feel the burning as it raced through my veins, my fangs coming out as I prepared to attack. “Dammit Bella, calm down! It’s me, Tia!”
It took a moment before I could recognize her and force myself to stand up, the tendrils of fear left from the nightmare slowly unsticking themselves. “Bad dream, sorry,” I mumbled, taking a deep breath.
Immediately the scent of humans overloaded my senses, their blood making the burning in my veins seem like a wildfire. I doubled over, my stomach seeming to stab me from the inside as if Tia had laced magick within me, which definitely never happened when I was thirsty. I could barely think about what was going on though as I raced to the kitchen for a blood bag before I did something drastic like drain New York City of every human within it, almost ripping the refrigerator door off its hinges in the process.
I’d never woken up this thirsty before either, my body trembling as I drained blood bag after blood bag. Only when my stock was completely empty did I feel my thirst wane, my head pressed against the fridge as the dream replayed itself again and again against my closed eyes.
It felt so real, as if I was actually there and that had actually happened. A ridiculous notion considering how I was a vampire, and only people capable of wielding magick were able to escape their bodies during sleep.
“So should I ask about that weirdness, or are you just going to tell me?” Tia said, stepping into the kitchen and sitting beside me.
I rubbed my face with a groan, and then peeked at Tia between my fingers. She looked concerned, maybe even a little scared. “Just a bad dream that got to me, nothing to worry about,” I managed to say, but for some reason my words felt like a lie. What was going on with me?
“I won’t push you this time, but only because you have to haul ass to Group. So get dressed and use your vampy powers to get yourself there before you can get yourself into any more trouble than absolutely necessary.” I sighed, jumping up and stalking back to my bedroom to get changed. I was totally not in the mood to go to Group, especially since I was likely to see the one person I wasn’t up to facing after that dream: Christopher.
I threw on some jeans and a t-shirt, the words ‘I Bite for Free’ stretched across my boobs. The shirt was a present from Tia and probably not appropriate for Group, but screw it. I would take any tiny rebellion I could, since missing Group totally wasn’t a choice. I was lucky the Council had decided to go easy on me punishment-wise. Almost revealing the existence of Supernaturals to the humans was punishable by death or centuries of torture, although not being able to drink from the vein and having to endure STG until who knows when is a torture in itself.
I checked the time, muttering a curse before speeding my way to Group. I was definitely going to be late.
I stomped onto Ralf’s property, a shock running down my back as I passed the magick border and went into his home. The group was sitting in Ralf’s living room, five Supernaturals all in one cozy little circle that I dreaded joining.
“Isabella, wonderful of you to make it! We weren’t sure if you would be here today,” Ralf exclaimed, smile so big that I was surprised I couldn’t see his damn tongue hanging out. How could one body possibly fit so much happiness within it?
I rolled my eyes, dropping into the only empty chair which, of course, was right beside Christopher. Today was obviously going to be a great day.
