Chapter Two

In seconds I was standing in front of my apartment door, sweating and shaking as I somehow was able to unlock the door and drag myself to the kitchen.

The smell of human blood wafted into my nose, heady and delicious, and I could almost taste the hot rush of blood on my tongue as I imagined puncturing the bleeding human with my fangs.

"Bella, chill girl." Tia appeared in front of me, a wavering vision that was slowly being eaten by red as any sense of control I had, began to disappear. She rifled through the fridge, pulling out two blood bags and handing them to me. "Drink up!" she said, but I barely heard her, already ripping into the bags and sucking them dry.

I moaned in satisfaction, the cold substance not nearly as good as it would've been if I'd gotten it from the vein, but enough to calm the thirst.

As soon as I'd finished both bags, I slid to the cold tile floor in blood-induced happiness. "Thanks T." I glanced up at my witch of a best friend with a smile.

Tia, or rather Tia Raine Madolen if you were in the business of calling people by their full names, was one of my very few friends and only roommate. I met her in 1802 when, by some twisted form of fate, she happened to pass by the small and desolate town I was living in during that time, on her way to New York City. She arrived at the perfect time too, stepping foot in the town just as a Hunter was preparing to stake me at the border, and though that wouldn't kill me, being staked in the heart paralyzes vampires until the stake is taken out. To this day I still don't know how they figured out I was a vampire, but it was only thanks to Tia that I escaped okay and not in the clutches of the Hunters. As soon as she saw what was about to occur, she used her magick to put an end to the Hunters life. After that, of course, we became the best of friends.

"Don't thank me until your sentence is off and you're free from the blood bags," Tia replied, laughing as she pulled me to my feet. "Speaking of your sentence, how was Group?"

I trudged into the living room, dropping myself onto our leather couch, Tia doing the same. "Totally sucked. This mutt named Ralf ran it. He had me tell my sob story of a past, and even when I was a total bitch he was still radiating positivity and joy. It was sickening. Then this guy completely embarrassed me, somehow weaseling his way through the block in my head, hearing some moderately dirty thoughts I was having about the aforementioned mutt Ralf, and outing my thoughts to everyone in the room. I almost killed him, T. I swear, if I hadn't seen his face first, he'd be dead right now," I exclaimed, letting my face fall into my hands. "You should have seen him, T. He looked like a literal god, I mean he was perfect. He had these blue eyes that I almost fell into, blue eyes that I swear I've seen before. And he has dimples! T, you know what a sucker I am for dimples." I sighed, lifting my face up to look at Tia.

She squealed, jumping up from the couch and pacing back and forth in front of our glass coffee table. "You so have the hots for him! Tell me all about him! His name, his hair color, what type of Supernatural he is, everything!"

I rolled my eyes, laughing at her show of exuberance. "T, first of all, no one says 'you have the hots for him' anymore, that's way old school. And second, I think it's your turn to calm down now," I said, smiling as my laughs calmed down. "But as to his name? I have no idea. I mean I barely exchanged a real conversation with the guy before I ditched the end of Group and came back here. I mean he literally said 'wow, horny little vamp I see' to me, in front of the entire Group! And yes, there are only like five other Supernaturals in Group, but that's still totally mortifying!" I glared past Tia at the open window looking over New York City, shaking my head in annoyance. "I mean being hot doesn't give someone a right to be a dick."
