•••••After 90 grueling minutes of listening to Headmaster Maxwell Burton talk about the school, the importance of education, expectations for students, the grading system, and a recitation of the alma mater - most of which I wasn't paying attention to - Atlas and I headed back to our dorm. It was around 4:40, and I decided that I should just lounge around the rest of the day, so I could be rested for the first day of classes.
I changed into a sweatshirt and some sweatpants, and after grabbing some chips from the kitchenette to snack on, I pulled up Netflix on my laptop. In the middle of watching a third episode of Gilmore Girls, I was startled by ten, obnoxiously loud knocks at the door. I turned to Atlas, who was on her bed, looking at something on her phone, until the knocks broke her concentration. She looked back at me with a confused expression.
"Are you expecting someone?" She asked.
"No...are you?"
"Nope. I-" She started to say something else but was cut off by several more knocks.
"I guess I should answer it then." I got off my bed and made my way to the door. I opened it, and two people barged into the room.
"C'mon. Hurry up and get dressed. We're goin' out," a newly familiar voice spoke in an Irish accent.
I pivoted around from my spot at the door, shocked to see Niall and Louis standing in the middle of my dorm room. Atlas looked completely terrified.
"W-what are you doing here?" I asked frantically.
"We're here to pick you up. Duh," Louis said like it was obvious.
"Pick me up for what? And how did you know where my dorm was? How did you even get into the building? Isn't there a rule about boys not being allowed in the girls' dorm and vice versa?" A multitude of questions swam through my head.
"We have our ways." Louis answered. Could he be more vague? "And we're taking you out to celebrate the last night before the semester starts."
"Dahlia. Why are there two guys in our dorm. I mean I think I've seen him before," she pointed to Niall. "But why are they here, in our room, acting like they know you." In all the commotion, I had forgotten that Atlas was probably more confused than I was.
"I found them on my way to the bathroom before the assembly. He was in an air vent." I gestured towards Louis, who facepalmed.
"Did you have to tell her that part? Now she's gonna think we're crazy or something."
"You literally barged into our room. I still don't know how you even found out which room was mine, by the way. I bet she already thinks you're crazy, and I'm starting to agree."
Niall looked offended. "Ouch, that's a little harsh. I thought we were mates. But get ready. We're leaving soon."
"Dahlia. Who are they?" We all looked over at Atlas, who shrunk back against the headboard, with her knees pulled up to her chest.
