One month may not seem like a long time but when you are a girl stuck in an awful cycle of death and pain it can be the longest amount of time.

For Maddie Dempsey one month was the amount of time she was given to morn her friend's death before she was expected to immediately pretend like it didn't happen and start smiling for the holidays that were right around the corner.

One month was the amount of time that she had been away from her boyfriend who was in a rehabilitation facility trying to get better for himself and his loved ones. One month was the amount of time, so far, that her best friend had begun to cling to her side, both of them afraid that one wrong move could be what tipped off the police to what they knew.

And lastly, one month was the amount of time that Maddie had been watching her brother slowly unravel as he began to drown his sorrows in alcohol.

"One month." She said quietly as she breathed in through her nose and out through her mouth, reminding herself to stay calm.

Her one month was up.

Now, it's a new month. And she was sure it would come with new problems.
