continued from last chapter...
"Bitch we got the house to ourselves, yessirrskiiii." Shala close the door with her foot.
"Until my lil brother get here." Beala sat her crossbody bag on the coffee table then made her way to the kitchen.
"What time that lil nigga coming?" She asked, following after Beala.
"I don't know, but once he gets here let me know." Beala opened the refrigerator, taking out some leftover spinach dip.
"Okay, what you finna do?" Shala grabbed the carton of minute maid fruit punch.
(A.N: now we know minute maid do not last in a black household)
"Eat then watch something on Netflix."
"Oh, while you do that I'ma go look for my playstation since memaw wanna be petty and hide my shit."
Memaw had a good reason to hide it though, Shala kept on trying on her. Simple.
"Good luck with that." Beala laughed, hitting the 30 second button three times.
"Once I find it don't ask to play since you wanna laugh and shit." Shala stuck the middle finger up.
Beala stayed in the kitchen for a good thirty minutes to eat and wash the dishes she used. Before she headed upstairs to her room, she let Shala know that she was heading up so that way if Shala needed her then she'll know where to look. Plopping down on the bed, she reached over to her nightstand and pulled up Netflix on her Macbook. "Fractured" was the movie that she decided to watch, not even ten minutes into the movie she could feel herself dozing off.
Beala touched the knob then turned it open. She walked into the light and found her way home. Home where she was loved and safe from the past haunting her.
But the light didn't stop there, it kept on going and going and going until she reached another door with a label saying "push here". So she pushed the button and immediately felt herself being lifted onto a different level.
Darkness has fallen upon her.
She was back to square one but this time followed with a path leading her. Every little step she takes, a candle lights up. Once she made it to the end there was a table with an note card.
"once was lost but now I'm found, meet me where we once left."
Jumping out of her sleep, she scooted to the edge of the bed and slipped her yellow crocs on and grabbed her phone jogging down the stairs nearly tripping over her own two feet.
"Damn, where you going Speedy Gonzalez?" Shala paused her game.
"I need you to take me to Urban Candle." Beala snatched the keys off the entryway table.
"What? You must finna buy some more candles."
"Something like that." She mumbled reaching for the door.
Shala parked her car outside of Urban Candle and turned around in her seat facing Beala. Beala just stared outside of the windshield scared of what the outcome will be if she goes in and the person she's looking for isn't in there. Her mind raced a thousand miles per minute, trying to come up with words to say.
"You good?" Shala asked nudging her shoulder. "Cause i'll pull out this bitch if you need me to."
"Y-yea, i'm just trying to collect my thoughts— that's all." She grabbed her purse from the backseat then unbuckled her seatbelt.
"Okay, do you want me to go in with you?"
Beala opened the car door and stepped out into the heat. "No! I'll be just fine by myself, you just sit here play your music and wait for moi."
Within that she closed the door and looked over her shoulder peering at Shala who's eyes were still lingering on her. Reaching for the door she jumped back nearly getting hit by whoever pushed the door open. Beala mugged the old wrinkled face lady as she went around her to go in the store, inhaling the hazy, icy, and bright smells of the candles displayed all around. She made an mental note to buy a few candles before she left out, feeling eyes on her she slowly turned around and locked eyes with her.
A wave of chills went down her spine as she eyed her, the women she haven't seen since she came back to St. Louis. Froze in place, everything she wanted to say vanished and it frustrated her cause she took time to plan out everything. Beala power walked to her and just before she got a chance to reach her, she was stopped.
"Sorry ma'am but you can't go back there." An employee stopped her.
"B-but i-." She tried to push pass the employee.
"You're gonna have to leave ma'am."
Beala nodded as the employee escorted her out the candle.
i didn't get to buy any damn candles.
As soon as she got inside of the car Shala bombarded her with questions. She sighed and tossed her head back hoping that will stop the tears from leaking out.
"She was in there but then she wasn't, i- i don't know what happened Shala." She cried. "I swear she was there."
"Who Bea?"
"Myriam."
