September 10

Mrs. Lynn's art class was something not a lot of people talked about. An occasional,
"She's a good teacher." Or
"Yeah, it was a good class."
But no one really said anything further than that. And there was something about that mystery that excited these 11 kids who walked in on September 10 not knowing each other's names. But left on June 16 more different than they would've ever thought possible. This is the story of how one art class, changes 11 lives in more ways than one. But first, we must start from the beginning.
Christopher Collins walked into Mrs. Lynn's class on September 10 before anyone else with a full back pack and jeans more ripped up than not. And she smiled, as she always did. He sat and smiled back but his palms began sweating. Something about her silence made him nervous. Although a lot of things made Christopher Collins nervous.
And then Maddie Lasav walked in, tall and blonde and ready to face the world. Along side her, as always, was Lydia Walker. Lydia Walker didn't walk in as proud as Maddie, but in her mind no one could ever do anything quite like Maddie.
And then after Maddie and Lydia, in walked, all lanky and covered in black, Luke Hemmings. He strained his eyes away from the two blondes in the front of the room and tripped a couple times before settling in a seat a few rows behind them. Maddie flipped her hair and smiled because she knew exactly the kind of affect she had on boys like Luke Hemmings.
Right after him walked in a sweaty and nervous Albert Jay. Yes, glasses and all, he walked in to Mrs. Lynn's art class. His dad had told him he didn't take enough risk during high school so he thought college was the right place to start. Taking an art class was the biggest risk he could think of. Because he wasn't and never would be an artist. But Albert Jay could pass any class, and indeed he did.
Then walked in right behind Albert, 5'0, Anna Scott, headphones on and head bobbing to The Kooks. She sat down in the front of the class room and smiled brightly at Mrs. Lynn. And as always, she smiled back.
After her a gorgeous girl who had effortlessly made a perfect messy bun and thrown on a baggy flannel walked in, looking tired and yet undeniably beautiful. This girls name was Mackenna Caroline Livone. But everyone called her MC. And even though it was clear that guys stared and girls as well, she was completely oblivious to it. What actually fascinated people about MC is the person she actually was. Looks can trick you like that sometimes.
With a snap back and an old T-shirt, Calum Hood walked in, breakfast sandwich in one hand and a coffee in the other.
But directly behind him, not paying much attention as usual, was Jaclyn Park. So Jaclyn, naturally went crashing into Calums back.
But don't worry. The coffee survived. He looked behind him, rather annoyed and immediately Jaclyn ushered out a flustered
"Sorry... I'm so sorry!"
But after seeing the green eyed, freckled girl with the gorgeous curly hair he smirked and said
"It's okay." And Jaclyn walked to her seat repeating in her head,
"This would happen to me. Why wouldn't I bump into a hot guy on the first day?"
Little did she know that Calum cares more about how her ass looked in her skinny jeans than when she bumped into him seconds before.
After Calum, Ashton Irwin waltzed in right on time and looking messily gorgeous. He sat down right beside Anna but she barely noticed with her head phones still in. So he crossed his arms and looked ahead of him at Mrs. Lynn. And yep, you guessed it. She smiled.
Anna took out her head phones, and Maddie stopped applying her mascara. And they all waited patiently for the teacher to begin speaking. But she didn't. And you could practically smell the confusion in the room.
"There's one more coming." Mrs. Lynn said. Everyone in the room shifted uncomfortably.
"There's always one more." She smiled. And seconds later, bursting through the door rushed in Michael Clifford with a band tee older than him and pants tighter than they should be.
"H-hi." He ushered out, clearly out of breath.
"I'm sorry I didn't even realize how late it wa-"
"No need to apologize. Please sit." He quickly took a seat next to Calum and slouched down enough to avoid eye contact with anyone in the room.
Mrs. Lynn stood in front of the class and scanned each and every face.
Christopher fiddled with his pencil and Mrs. Lynn could feel how nervous he was. Maddie didn't dare avoid eye contact. But Mrs.Lynn had taught girls like Maddie far too many times. So she looked away and focussed on Lydia instead. Who was in fact, looking at Maddie.
She looked behind her to Luke, who was looking at his phone and so her eyes traveled to Albert Jay.
Albert Jay didn't look like he had a natural confidence about him, but at the same time, he did. And that made Mrs. Lynn chuckle. And Albert didn't know why, but he smiled.
Little Anna Scott sat swinging her legs with her chin in her hands waiting patiently (but still uncomfortably) for Mrs. Lynn to say something. But she didn't and kept looking. Ashton wasn't really looking at Mrs. Lynn which was very surprising. So Mrs. Lynn followed his eyes and they landed on beautiful Mackenna Caroline who was mindlessly staring into space. She smiled a knowing smile and continued.
Calum Hood huffed and crossed his eye brows, not understanding what the hell was going on and Michael only wanted to avoid eye contact.
"Welcome. Before we start this class I want to get one thing straight. I don't care if you show up late, if you don't show up at all, if you want to eat your dinner, paint with your dog, listen to music, text your friends. It doesn't matter to me. It doesn't matter at all. The only person it should matter to is you. So you can text while I'm talking, and you can waste this class away. It won't affect me. I won't get you in any trouble, that's not what I'm here for. It's time you start doing what's right because it's what you know is right, not because someone is telling you that you have to."
Anna looked up to Mrs. Lynn with admiration. She had never had a teacher say something like that before a class.
For most of the others, this made them even more uncomfortable.
"With that being said, it's time to find out who all of you are."
She grabbed her clip board and a pen and began.
"Michael Clifford?"
"Here." Michael said loudly and raised his hand. Mrs. Lynn noticed the blue hair.
"Balsy." She said, nodding at it.
"Oh, the hair?" He asked. People usually said that about his hair. She nodded and smiled and moved down the list.
"Christopher Collins?" Chris kept his head down but raised his hand. He stared at his blue folder as Mrs. Lynn stared at him.
"Luke Hemmings?"
"Here."
"Calum Hood?"
"Here."
"Ashton Irwin?"
"Here."
"Albert Jay."
"Present!"
"Madeline Lasav?"
"Right here." She raised her hand and smirked her lip glossed lips at the teacher. Mrs. Lynn wasn't impressed.
"Mackenna Caroline Livone?"
"MC." Mackenna Caroline responded and Mrs. Lynn nodded before staring at MC for a little while longer. There was something about her, and it wasn't the beauty.
"Jaclyn Park?"
"Here."
"Anna Scott?"
"In the flesh!" She said excitedly and raised her hand tall and proud. Mrs. Lynn giggled and so did Anna. She had a specialty for making people laugh.
"And last but not least Lydia Walker?"
"Here." Lydia said quietly.
"Well, looks like everyone showed up then. Now welcome to art class. I hope you learn a lot about art, but more importantly, I hope you all learn something about each other. Because you might be strangers now, but remember, strangers can turn into friends just as fast as friends can turn into strangers."
