September 12
After class on that Friday afternoon Ashton was a little too excited to be hanging out with MC. What made him feel like a weird obsessive eighth grader was that she didn't really seem to be interested in anything. That also excited him more though. Because now he could figure out what really did excite her. He couldn't wait. After class Ashton arrived at the diner they had agreed to meet up at a little early so he sat on his phone and waited around for MC.
And 15 minutes later, with a pair of baggy jeans and a mess of curls on her head, in walked the undeniably gorgeous, Mackenna Caroline.
Ashton tried not to look too excited. She sat down in the booth across from Ashton and smiled as he continued to stare.
"Hey." He said.
"Hey." She replied. She rested her hand on her chin. She looked out the window and didn't say anything after that. Ashton was confused but enjoyed the fact that he could stare at her now without awkward eye contact.
"Um... You hungry?"
"Why are we in here?"
Her question threw Ashton off.
"Wha- did you not want-"
"No like I mean, why?"
"I don't understand..."
"It's a beautiful day. I mean soon the flowers are gonna die and the trees are gonna be bear and I just feel like we shouldn't be inside. We're gonna miss this in a few weeks."
Ashton was a little blown away. That was the most he had heard MC talk all week.
"We can do this outside if you want."
She didn't say anything. She just picked up her bag and walked outside. And Ashton followed even though he was slightly confused and thrown off.
Once they settled on a bench outside Ashton asked,
"So you like the outdoors?"
MC shrugged.
"I just don't like wasting days like this. Warm weather kinda gives me a sense of comfort."
Ashton nodded.
"How about you Mr. No life? What comforts you?"
"Food."
MC giggled.
"I'm serious." She said.
"I don't really know. Music, mostly. It's gonna sound lame but my mum."
MC smiled and looked away.
"No, it's not lame."
Ashton smiled but still secretly felt lame.
"So you've got a good family? Like siblings?"
"Yeah. Two." He smiled at the thought of his wonderful family.
"That's nice." She smiled. And Ashton took that chance to admire the dark blue of her eyes.
"You?"
She shook her head. Ashton tried to convince himself that it wasn't sadness that suddenly overtook her facial expression. Because if she were sad he wouldn't know what to do. He hated when people were sad. So he changed the subject.
"What's your favorite food?" He felt silly for asking such a random and horrible question but he panicked and that's the first thing he thought of.
MC laughed loudly.
"Really? You're gonna ask me what my favorite food is? What are you gonna do, draw a picture of pizza for this project?" She continued to laugh and that was enough to make up for the embarrassment Ashton was feeling.
"Okay smart mouth how about you ask me a question then." MC raised an eyebrow at Ashton and shrugged her shoulders. She turned around and looked him in the eye.
"When'd you loose your virginity?"
"What?!"
"You heard me."
"That's completely inappropriate."
"You told me to ask you a question."
"But not that!"
"Why not?"
"Because it's personal!"
"Don't be such a wuss, come on tell me."
"No."
"Wuss"
"Seventeen."
"Come o-"
MC stopped when she realized he finally told her.
"Seventeen? You're kidding."
"No? Why? What's wrong with seventeen?"
"Nothing, nothing. I just would've guessed you lost it sooner."
Ashton rolled his eyes as MC giggled immaturely.
"Remind me how that information helps with the project?"
"It doesn't." She said.
"I just wanted to make you all flustered and embarrassed. It's kinda cute."
Ashton rolled his eyes again but couldn't help the smirk that was taking over his face. He could definitely get used to hanging out with MC.

Calum told Christopher to be at the library at 4. So naturally, Christopher was there by 3 and Calum was there at 4:30.
"Hey." He greeted.
"Hey." Chris replied.
Calum took his book bag off and sat in the seat in front of Chris. The silence was a little too awkward for a little to long so Calum started conversation.
"So let's get this started, then?"
"Uh, okay. So um why don't we star-"
And in that moment in walked Jaclyn and Anna. There were laughing uncontrollably and nearly tripping over each other, but regardless, Calum's thoughts became impure automatically.
"Dude, look."
Christopher looked behind him and saw the two girls he recognized from Mrs. Lynn's class.
"Dibs on the one in the jeans.... Damn." Calum continued to remove Jaclyns clothes with his eyes and Christopher looked away quickly.
"Like I was saying-"
"You think she's single?"
Christopher tried to hide how annoyed he was getting. The truth is, he knew nothing about those girls. Or any girl in general.
"I don't know."
"The other ones pretty hot. We should ask them if they wanna hang sometime."
Christopher's palms began to sweat.
"Uh, no."
"Why not? Look at them, bro."
"No I know, they're um- they're pretty I just... I don't-"
"Don't what? Like girls?"
"No, no."
"So then what's the problem, man?"
"I just don't really have a lot of experience with girls."
"Dude, girls aren't that complicated."
"They aren't?"
"Okay... I lied. They're complicated as fuck. But getting into their pants is quite easy. All you need to do is convince them that they are the lucky ones. You are always the better one, and never let them think otherwise."
"But that's not... true."
"Well, of course it's not. They don't care about the truth. They just wanna be told their pretty and shit."
Christopher thought about that for a while. He couldn't see how a plan that stupid could possibly work.
"And that works?" He asked.
"Every time. I'll show you."
Calum got up and walked over the Jaclyn and Anna.
"Hello, ladies."
Christopher began to look for an emergency exit.
"Me and Chris were just sitting over there and noticed you guys over here by yourself, decided we'd invite you over."
Jaclyn looked to Anna, thinking she'd say yes to the hot boy asking to sit with them.
But Anna had a different plan.
"Thanks but we really need to get some studying done. Maybe another time."
She grabbed Jackies hand, who might I add was very confused, and hurriedly walked off to another table.
And Calum was left stunned. He walked back and sat down, still lost in thought about what just happened. Christopher found all of this very amusing.
"What happened?" He asked.
"They said... no."
Christopher chuckled.
"Hey, this is not funny, man. No girl has ever said no. I mean, look at me,
I'm irresistible."
Chris made an uncomfortable face and Calum continued to wonder why they wouldn't want to hang out with him.
Meanwhile Jaclyn was wondering just the same thing.
"Dude... Why?" She asked Anna.
"Why what?"
"Why'd you say no to that... Insanely hot guy."
Anna rolled her eyes.
"You can never let them think that it's a privilege to be hanging out with them. That's exactly what guys like that want. So you play a little hard to get, see what they're really about. You gotta act like you're not interested in them."
"But that not true?"
"Well of course it's not. You know that, but he can't."
"And that works?" She asked.
"Every time." Anna replied.
