Buffy used to have a life, like really she swears she did. A normal, vampire free life. She had a loving family, a rocking group of friends, and a killer haircut. All that came crashing down when an old dude in a suit approached her on the sidewalk of Mystic Falls High. There she was waiting for Elena to be done flirting with Matt when he started blabbering on about her destiny.
Destiny? No, she was destiny free, really. I mean, if destiny wanted to name her cheer captain, she'd be all for it, but some loony coming up to you raving about vampires? No. Thank you, but no.
She didn't have a choice in the matter as it turned out. Her life exploded in a supernatural disaster after that. Vampires, demons, watchers-- oh my! And she couldn't tell anyone about it. All she had was a British librarian Watcher and a cute vampire boyfriend, and Caroline would have flipped if she found out about Buffy's extracurriculars. She definitely wouldn't put that on her Miss Mystic Falls application.
Even then, she was living a fantasy. Destiny bit her in the ass one summer night when she lost almost everyone she cared about. In one Fell's Church swoop, her parents, her Watcher, and her boyfriend all left her in one night. That one damned night.
If only she knew her true destiny back then. Maybe she'd turn back.
