A little while later after the move in and his dad had left, Aaron and Ethan had a tense conversation about the unsavory scent in their room.
"Surprise, I like Rocky Peaks! C'mon, it's just a smell, what? Now you want to move out?" Aaron asked.
He stood in the doorway of their room trying to get Ethan to be a little more understanding.
Ethan's expression was grim, "I am sorry, but it's a deal-breaker," Ethan just shook his head in dismay. Aaron chuckled.
"Buddy, you've gotta cool it. Deal. No more Rocky Peaks. In this room anyway, James is weird, he holds onto that thing like it's some sort of crutch. He's worn it for forever, it's not the best but I think it smells okay," Aaron admitted. Ethan could not believe that, but he acknowledged that everyone had a different opinion, instead of insulting Aaron's sketchy taste in cologne, he gave Aaron a smirk.
"I was told you went on a date recently," Ethan said waggling his eyebrows. Aaron opened his mouth then thought for a retort.
"I suppose I'll tell you because I might need to use this room for certain activities." Aaron gave Ethan a teasing glance.
"Oh, the hell you won't. I had to deal with that when I lived with Lincoln."
Aaron laughed, his expression was one of complete joy at Ethan's expense, "I am just messing with you! It didn't go as planned, so I mean you're safe, for now." It was an ominous warning of how close Aaron was to kicking his roommate out, right then and there, once he found another person he'd rather spend the night with.
"What was her name?" Ethan pried. Aaron rolled his eyes.
"Carmen," Aaron answered.
"What grade is she in?" Ethan queried.
"She's a Junior," Aaron replied.
"How'd you meet?" Ethan asked.
"Tinder."
Aaron narrowed his eyes in warning, but luckily Ethan would not make fun of him for meeting a girl on Tinder, too much.
"So, she goes to school here?"
"Yes."
"Major?"
"Math."
"Is she nice?"
"I thought so."
"Is she—?" Ethan was interrupted.
"Oh, c'mon, Ethan, what do you want? Her bra size?" Aaron asked exacerbated by the questions Ethan kept packing on.
"Well . . . " Ethan said smiling.
"Ethan, if you're lonely I know a place down the street for your kind." Aaron implied he would be hitting up the club, which he most certainly would not be.
"I'm joking. Alright, I'll stop the interrogation. But seriously, how bad was it?" Ethan asked. Aaron stormed off, shouting goodbye, but Ethan continued on in a slightly louder voice, "I'm guessing pretty bad by the fact that the stench of the cologne is still in the air and it's been over an hour."
"Fuck you, Ethan!"
"Thanks!" Ethan yelled back.
He wasn't sure why he asked all those questions, maybe he was a bit lonely. His girlfriend and he had broken up over a year ago. Ethan knew why he didn't have a girlfriend at the moment, he was tall, but he definitely wasn't the other half of that equation being muscular and traditionally masculine. Also, his flirting abilities paled in comparison to his peers. What could he say? He'd been with one girl before and she did most of the initiating anyway. Though Ethan was in charge of conversations, or social interactions, Linda wasn't that great at speaking to other groups of people. He could at least get a few good sentences in, she, on the other hand, had difficulty even trying to join, he wasn't sure if it was because she genuinely was disinterested in conversation or if she had anxiety.
