It was Wednesday morning and the dorm was abnormally hopping. Ethan heard someone's stereo through the paper-thin walls. He tuned in, it was smooth jazz, he crinkled his forehead in confusion. Was some college guy a fan of the saxophone? If so, was he allowed to switch roommates?
He envied Lincoln, who was happily asleep. Unfortunately, Ethan had that early class, Business 101, pretty much every day, except Fridays, bless Fridays. Ethan rolled his eyes to the back of his head, in misery, he dropped back unto his bed defiantly. After wallowing for a solid ten minutes, he got up and got ready.
Ethan tore out of the dorms immediately after putting on his left shoe. The sharp tongue had come undone from its material casing causing him to nearly cut himself on the surprisingly strong piece of plastic. He got to his class early to sort out some concepts in the classroom. Ethan never asked questions during lecture. How in the world did people do it? In front of like one hundred students someone just decides that they want that attention on a Wednesday. He was glad cold calling wasn't a tactic any of his professors used.
As soon as class finished up his productive homework day was stopped short with the realization that he had to go to his work shift still. He wouldn't have the time to do homework. He entered the hallways after lecture, and was greeted by a loud, deafening "HUMP DAY!"
The weird thing was Ethan couldn't even identify where it came from.
This meant that someone was so passionate about telling everyone, in the hallway, it was, in fact, Wednesday, that they created an echo from all the way down the hall. At least that's what it sounded like. Ethan heard a few concealed chuckles along the way.
His workday started early because he had a long time between classes. Which was lucky because it was hard to work past the four o'clock slump.
Still having an extra thirty minutes, he took his time with the journey to the library, and decided since it was raining out, he would cut across the quad via the liberal arts building. Though he knew the real reason he wanted to get in that building, he secretly wanted to be in that college. The bonus was, taking the short cut would avoid the rain.
He sorted his backpack out on his shoulders before grimacing as he opened the large glass doors to the downpour. He saw in his blurry vision plenty of kids running for cover, hiding from the shrapnel of rain bullets.
He raced to the large brick building and up its steps to the front. Grabbing the mighty door, he swung it open and was surprised to see that there were only but a couple students roaming the halls. Noticing the time and how it was off-peak hours made the absence of students less surprising. He walked down the halls as he did a few days ago, taking his time.
He again checked the bulletin board, today it was chalk full of advertisements for events, it was like they were trying to weigh it down with as many papers as physically possible. He looked at the eye-catching aqua, pink, neon green, and electric blue papers, reading them all; "Crazy Croquet," "Burger Campout," "Mini Golfing Adventure." He noticed that there was a summer theme going on and that the flyers were focused on activities for everyone, instead of just liberal arts students. There should be some sort of roller-skating club, or was it rollerblading that was the right thing? Ethan still couldn't understand which one took priority.
He then took notice of a flyer hiding behind one for "Writing Club," it was for Improv. The thought never occurred to him if he was still interested. But if he was, there was a meeting tonight. He gulped nervously before settling on the reality that if he didn't go tonight, how the heck was he planning to sneak his way in later. You can't just drop by and claim you can act, right? Although it would technically be "improvisation." But what was the harm in going beside the fact that he wouldn't know anyone, trying new things was what college was for.
