He woke up instantly at seven like his body was prepared to just eject him out of his bed right then and there. He flinched as he nearly tripped over a cord, not as clumsy as he usually was, he evaded the small electrical snake.

Crawling to the kitchen he fished around for his cornflakes which were relegated to the back of the pantry. Stranger in his own home, he thought. Then he plopped himself into a chair and began to eat his breakfast, he hoped it would tide him over until at least one. His parents would not stop for lunch he was sure of that.

Then he remembered it would only be one parent. It was the weekend and his mom had to work a shift at the restaurant, so his father would drive him back in his old pickup.

Ethan grabbed his things after breakfast and promptly got into the car. It was nice to be in the old clunker again. Its unsavory blueberry sheen and chunky interior reminded him of a toy. His dad was all smiles in that car.

Once they were at the school Ethan proceeded to move all his belongings out of the dorms with his dad's help. First came the mini fridge, then the rest. The television and everything else of Lincoln's had moved, Ethan was glad that high-definition hazard was gone.

"Whew, think about that, it only took us like twenty minutes, it took us at least an hour to move in, right, Ethan?" his dad asked as they were about to drive to his new home. When they arrived Ethan, stared at the porch of his new home, he loved the way the terrible looking house could look so homey like he could come back to this spot and know it was his.

It was also not that far from the coast so a beach trip during the summer would be assured.

"Well let's get you set up then," his dad chirped. It was funny how childlike his dad was during the move in, it was his son that was supposed to be all giddy. Although Ethan felt very similar to his father, he too was excited.

"You're right, I'll grab the mini fridge," Ethan said, jumping out of the truck and reaching into its bed.

"So have your friends made it back from break?" his dad asked him, Ethan shrugged.

"Pretty sure Aaron and James are, and Olivia—" Ethan was rudely interrupted.

"Wait, Olivia, that's a girl's name? Who are you living with, Ethan?" his dad asked, practically scolding him right there in front of his new house. Ethan remembered how traditional his family was.

"No, she's a friend, Dad. And she's lived with these guys for a while, she's . . . " Ethan stopped himself before he could go further.

"Well, then. I hope you find new roommates next year, I guess I can't do anything now, but you really shouldn't be living with a girl, Ethan. Unless you two were married or something," his dad said, chuckling a bit at that last part. To Ethan, marriage was the furthest thing from his mind.

"Right, they are just my friends."

Ethan instantly remembered her hand on his thigh.

"Well, we are going to be finding you some more friends to live with next year because you shouldn't be living with a girl."

Ethan wanted to roll his eyes hard at that one, yeah, she's a girl, so what?

"Well, she's also from England," Ethan added.

"What does that matter? So, she comes from a different country, that's supposed to make me feel better, how Ethan, how?" His father was growing frustrated with him.

"Well, all I am saying is that she doesn't have a lot of connections to anyone here I am sure, and her only two roommates are seniors that are leaving this place after this semester, she still has another year left."
