Alice and Mark were the perfect couple. To there friends and family they had never fought, never had any problems. They were literally a match made in heaven.
But that was just an act. See, behind closed doors, Mark isn't as nice as he seems, and Alice is very good at hiding the evidence with just a few strokes of concealer over her fragile face.
Mark likes to box. Mark also likes to drink. If drinking was a competition he would always win. He drinks way past the legal limit, and not once has he been caught for it other then by his wife.
And if Alice caught him and called him out on it then she might have acted as Marks punching bag for the night.
But tonight is different. Tonight Alice has had enough and she won't live like that anymore. All she needs is the divorce papers and it to be finalized and she's free of him. But of course, Alice isn't that lucky.
No one knew of the divorce, so no one could have realized that Alice and Mark didn't just go missing. Mark took Alice somewhere. Somewhere no one will find them. Somewhere where no one will hear her cries for help when he hurts her.
Alice has lost track of time completely. She knows it's daytime when Mark leaves for work so he can pay for food and his alcohol addiction, but she doesn't care. She has almost given up.
Almost.
She refuses to leave this life like this, under his thumb. When she passes she wants to die on her own terms, not on his.
She tries to keep the good memories of Mark in her head so she can reassure herself that Mark won't just kill her, but she is starting to think he will do it without a second thought. She tries to think of the times when he told her he loved her. When he surprised her with presents and flowers for no reason. When he would make sure no one would ever hurt her, but now he is the one causing the pain.
She still loves him for the man he used to be before he picked up that drink. But this new Mark is foreign to her, but she can't let her love go.
She has been thinking of ways to escape him. If she can just run to the nearest town then she can get help unless Mark catches her first, and she can't even imagine about what he would do to her.
Mark has her tied up my a metal wire to a pole, leaving her a little food and water for her during the day. Every day is usually the same. Mark leaves early for work, he comes back around eight or nine, piss drunk, then he either beats Alice or, as he calls it, "make love to her", then he falls asleep. Very few times has he not come home drunk and they almost have a normal conversation, as normal as it can be now.
Alice is slowly but surely going crazy. She needs to leave now if she wants to have any sanity left after this. She has figured out that from the months and months of malnutrition that her wrist is now skinny enough to squeeze out of the not that is tied around it. Mark, being to drunk all the time, has never taken notice to this.
Tonight is the night. Tonight is the night she will finally once and for all leave Mark.
He comes home usual time. She figured the best time to leave is when he is passed out asleep. But tonight he does something different. He lets her off of her 'leash' while he beats her. She knows this time he has much more anger stored up inside him. She knows this time he will kill her. She must escape now if he wants to live.
She weakly tries to crawl away from him as he catches his breath and tries not to fall on the ground. She must make it to the bathroom. There is a lock on the door and she can protect herself in there until he passes out and she can escape. She has to make it there. It is just up these stairs.
"Where the fuck are you going?" he spits at her as he charges at her
She screams and scrambles to her feet as quick as she can and trips up the stairs. Maybe she should go to another the room since the bathroom is to predictable. She picks a random room, hearing Mark fall down the stairs a few times.
The room she entered doesn't have a lock on it, but there is a window nearby so if he enters this room she can quickly climb out of it to the ground.
Mark finally gets up the stairs, the floorboards creaking loudly under his heavy feet, slowly opening every door to see which one Alice is in. Alice's breath quickens and puts her hand over her mouth to muffle it as she hides in her corner near the window. She knows right now it is either fight or flight, and there is no way she can fight him.
She quietly makes her way to the window, and by the time she has one leg out of the window the room door is slowly creaking open behind her.
"You little bitch." he spits "After everything I've done for you, you treat me like this! After all of the love I have given you!" he yells
Alice lets the tears spill as she quickly and carefully tries to make her way out of the window, but Mark is already advancing to her. She is already dangling off the window sill, having to have to swing her body a little to get to a small part she can walk on. Luckily she makes it there before Mark can grab hold of her, but he disappears from the window quickly after he realizes he lost.
Finally, she thought, I'm free.
She thought to soon. Since her bones were to weak to hold her body, she had fallen, but someone had caught her.
Mark.
She cries and screams at him to let her go, but all he does is hold his hand around her neck and walks towards somewhere with her. She is coughing and sputtering for breath by the time they reach their destination.
Her time has finally come.
He took her to the river
Where he slowly let her drown.
His hands holding her down as he suffocates her. She tries to hold onto one last happy memory, but only one comes to mind. She wants to die happy.
The memory is of her and Marks first anniversary together. He had taken her to some fancy restaurant, but the both of them had been uncomfortable there since it was something new to the both of them. They had left before the salads had even reached their table, and had gone to McDonalds instead, because why not.
They had ordered a bunch of burgers and fries and chicken nuggets, and they had started a small food fight from where they were eating outside. Mark was more laid back then. He was less stressed and almost never had a drink. It was the first night Mark told her he loved her.
She knew from then on that she would marry him. Possibly bare his children, but not anymore. That thought would be the last one Alice would ever think. He killed her within minutes and had left her body there to be consumed by the fish.
Mark had loved her. But Mark had changed. He would never go back to who he once was, and he was to selfish to let Alice go. If he couldn't have her then no one can.
And he killed her to prove that.
