To any person walking past, Alysia and Nathan looked like a perfect couple, madly in love. Their hands were intertwined as they strolled behind Flynn Cross's running figure. He stopped a few times to talk to random strangers.
Every so often when Flynn would look back, Nathan would take her face gently, forcing him to look at him as he pretended to say something. Alysia would be lying if she said that her heart didn't skip a beat every time he touched her.
But the feeling of someone watching her hadn't left either. Nathan nudged her with his elbow. "You look too tense."
Alysia shrugged. "I feel like we're being watched." She whispered, and Nathan glanced around them, before looking straight ahead.
"How long have you felt like that?" He asked, an arm slung over her shoulder. His breath was hot on her ear.
"The elevator."
"I thought it was just me." He muttered, and her eyes widened slightly in alarm. When he saw her expression, he instinctively pulled her closer to him. "I'm always paranoid." He reasoned. "How many times have you told me that?"
"Well, what do we do now?" She whispered.
"We act like a normal couple."

Flynn had stopped running a while ago, opting to go shopping. He was at a boutique, probably getting something for the girlfriend April had told her about. Nathan and Alysia had stopped at a food truck a couple hundred feet away from the boutique.Alysia pretended to look at the menu, glancing in the mirror behind the vendor. She gulped when she saw a man standing there, looking oddly familiar to the man in the elevator. Her eyes traveled down to his arm. Lines were inked into his skin, the pattern terribly recognizable. The Gevasi tattoo.
Goddamn rebels.
She glanced at Nathan who was already looking at her. "Gevasi." she mouthed. If there was one, who knew how many others there would be. Hopefully there weren't any more.
Nathan smiled charmingly at the vendor. "On second thought, we won't be getting anything. Have a good day." Nathan wrapped a hand around her wrist, pulling her towards the parking lot of the grocery store.
"There won't be just one of them, and we can't use our powers or fight them. It would draw attention." The pair speedily walked through the rows of cars, ducking behind a range rover when they heard footsteps.
They were in the less urban part of Ziren City, the outskirts of the suburbs. Nathan's eyes flitted around the parking lot, landing on a woman who had closed the trunk of her car before walking away.
They were close.
Nathan took off his sunglasses, throwing them up in the air, using his powers to blow the glasses to the other side of the parking lot. He pulled her up, pulling her towards the van which the woman had left. "What are we-?" She started to question, eyes widening in realization when he opened up the trunk.
The woman had left her car unlocked.
Nathan quickly opened up the trunk, hopping in, pulling him in along with her. Using his wind, he slammed the car trunk shut. Alysia's heart pounded as she stared into Nathan's eyes.
If the rebels found them, they'd have no choice but to fight, and then their identities would be revealed to everyone.
Her heart pounded even more when she heard the footsteps stop get closer to where they were hiding.
Alysia tried to focus on the conversation between the two rebels outside the trunk, but all she could focus on was how close Nathan was to her. His arms were on either side of her, one over her waist, and the other under her, from when he had pulled her into the trunk.
His eyebrows were furrowed as he listened into the conversation the rebels were having. The sliver of light that peeked through the tinted window of the trunk allowed her to see the specks of green in his eyes.
When the footsteps stopped directly outside the trunk, Nathan put a finger up to his lips, before pulling her closer to him.
Alysia gulped at how close they were, her head resting on his chest. The trunk closed when one of the men leaned on the car. A shiver ran up her spine as Nathan's hand accidentally skimmed her bare skin.
"Goddamn it." She heard one of the rebels mutter. "Where the hell did she go? He wanted us to follow her."
"Well maybe if you hadn't gotten so caught up in looking in your own reflection, we wouldn't have lost them."
"Oh shut it, Lucien. Let's just go. They could've easily ran while we were talking."
The footsteps faded away, and Alysia let out the breath she didn't know she was holding. Once again, she became very aware of the non-existent gap between them, and she slightly shifted.
Nathan reached over her to push open the trunk, muttering a quick apology under his breath. As if he had just realized how close the pair was, he froze, partially hovering over her.
She looked up at him, her green eyes meeting his. Feeling his hot breath trail across her face, and she felt her face flush.
What was she doing?
She turned her face away from him, taking a deep breath. Why was she blushing so much? Her face was on fire.
Nathan gently grabbed her chin, making her look at him. Alysia let out a breath at the close proximity. She felt his breath fanning over her lips.
"Alysia?" he muttered quietly, moving a piece of her golden-brown hair out of her face.
"Yeah?" She whispered, her response barely audible. His eyes were like the ocean, she noted. They had always calmed her when she had gotten out of control, when her emotions had ripped through her faster than reason.
"Can I kiss you?"
Alysia nodded, not able to form words. Nathan leaned down, and pressed his lips to hers. There weren't any fireworks, or sparks. He felt like home, what she had been searching for her whole life.
