The next couple of weeks flew by, and before Alysia knew it, Blanchard assigned her a new heist.
The past few weeks had been strange. Her and Nathan had run into each other a few times at the hospital, and she had even gotten his number.
Of course, when April found out, she had freaked out, asking for all the details. Alysia had shaken her head before telling her that there were no details.
There was also the dreadful feeling that someone was watching her, and the amount of media coverage her heist at the Carstairs hadn't done anything to make her less paranoid.
Alysia had wanted to take another week off, covering more shifts at Expresso but Blanchard had told her to 'Woman up' and do her job.
Tonight's victims were the Luddingtons. Blake and Blair Luddington ran an empire, providing ventilators, masks, and other medical equipment to hospitals.
Before Alysia had become a full time thief for Gevasi, she babysat for them, watching over four year old Kingston Luddington, future heir of the Luddington Empire.
She knew the mansion like the back of her hand, knowing the best hiding spots from playing hide and seek countless times with the little boy.
Alysia adjusted her black wig and mask, crouching behind a bush as a security guard walked past her hiding spot.
Once he was out of sight, she left her hiding spot, grabbing the pry bar she had left there the previous night with a gloved hand.
She shoved the pry bar between the first story window and the sill, jiggling it a bit, smiling when it slightly opened.
Alysia put the pry bar down, placing it into the bushes where she had hidden. She adjusted herself, before effortlessly opening the window.
She swung her leg over the window sill, entering the kitchen. She looked at the marble staircase, carefully tiptoeing up to find her way to Blair's makeup room.
She was faster this time. She didn't want to have another run in with Whirlwind. Her bruises had just faded, and she didn't care for anymore anytime soon.
Alysia quickly opened the drawer where she knew Blair kept most of her jewelry, grabbing the jewelry which had the largest jewels on it.
She flinched when she heard a crash, expecting to be thrown against the wall again.
But instead she heard Blair scream.
***
Alysia crouched behind the vanity, hearing thudding footsteps thundering down the hall.
"Please don't hurt us!" She heard Blair cry, "Don't hurt my baby!"
"Shut the hell up. Or there'll be a bullet in your baby's brain." She heard a man growl, and she leaned further into the shadow of the vanity.
This was a horrible streak.
Alysia heard Kingston whimper, and her heart sank to her feet.
"Take them downstairs." Another voice hissed, "We gotta get out of here before the cops come."
Their footsteps retreated downstairs, and Alysia let out a breath of relief. The coast was clear.
She opened the window of the room, a sudden wave of guilt coming over her. She couldn't just leave Kingston and Blair.
What if they died?
She groaned quietly, cursing her morals.
On one hand, she had a soft spot for Kingston, and if he died, she couldn't forgive herself. But on the other hand, she could die getting involved.
Or Blanchard would kill her.
She groaned again, before quietly sneaking to the top of the stairs.
One of the men held a gun, pointing towards Kingston's head, and the other man placed a computer in front of Blair.
Thankfully, both had their backs facing her.
She snuck down the stairs, making sure she didn't make a sound, hiding in the shadows of the marble staircase.
"Please, I'll do anything. Just get the gun away from his head!" Blair sobbed, "He did nothing wrong!"
"We know you'll do anything. Shut up and transfer three million to this account." The first man said, leaning against the wall. "Say anything else, we'll shoot him and then you'll do it."
"That's almost all of our funds for the hospital!" She exclaimed.
"Mommy, I'm scared." Kingston whimpered again.
The first man sighed. "Shoot him."
"No!" Alysia yelled, leaping from her hiding spot and in front of the gun, holding her arms out.
But the shot never came.
***
Instead of feeling a shot to her stomach, the man let out a scream of what seemed like agony.
Alysia opened her eyes, and looked at the man in horror. The man's face was scorched, flames engulfing his shirt. She looked at her hands in horror.
No. No no no no no no.
"Shit!" He screamed.
"God damn it, it's a super!" The other man yelled. She heard a 'bang' and felt a pain in her side. She doubled over in pain, pressing her hand to her side, feeling blood.
He shot her.
She let out a groan of pain as one of the men ran away, the other burning in flames in front of her.
She did that. She was the reason that man was burning alive.
"Oh my god!" Blair cried, throwing her arms around Alysia. "Thank you!"
"Keys." she muttered. "I need your keys. No tracker."
"What?"
"I got shot. I need your keys to leave." Alysia told her, internally panicking and getting tired of the woman's talking.
Blair Luddington was a wonderful person. She just didn't know when to stop talking.
"Here are your keys, miss."
She looked down at Kingston, a pained smile on her lips, before running out the door and to the driveway.
She needed to get home. The cops would be here and she couldn't get caught.
She unlocked the door, quickly getting in, biting her lip to keep her groan. She shoved the keys into the ignition before speeding away from the mansion, nearly crashing into one of the trees.
Alysia took the roads which many people didn't take, one hand on the steering wheel, the other on her side.
She narrowly avoided a car, ignoring their honking. She breathed heavily, feeling her adrenaline wear off.
She had been so stupid. She should've left.
Taking labored breaths, she gasped when a massive icicle appeared in front of her.
She didn't swerve fast enough.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter! What are your thoughts on Alysia and the rest of the characters at the moment?
QOTD: If you had to choose a super power to have, which one would you choose?
I think I'd either choose invisibility or talking to animals!
