Prince Joahua's POV

My stomach bulged like it did every night after the feast. I felt like I was going to puke, but as I day "the meal is not over you're full, the meal is over when you hate yourself ." I was getting ready to take a long bath before bed when I heard something grating outside, like stone on stone. I ignored it until it sounded as if there was someone looking for something in the trash bins. I looked out the window to find my passage open and a filthy peasant stealing from our trash bins.

"Hey! Get out of our trash, trespasser!" I called from the balcony. I felt terrible that people in my soon to be kingdom had to find their next meal in trash cans, but I didn't know what to do about it. I was not going to tell my father that someone was trespassing passed curfew for some food, but it was not flung unnoticed. I slid off the balcony into the strong, thick vines that clung to the white marble walls. She was so skinny, radiant, but skinny and she wavered. "What are you doing on the King's land passed curfew?!" I questioned her in a whisper as so the guards would not hear.

I don't know if she swayed out of terror of being caught, because she knew who I was or if she was just that weak from not having a proper meal in a long while bit he looked as if she might pass out. "My family and I were just so hungry. Please don't throw me in the dungeon, please!" she said very vainly. She was weak. I felt horrible looking at that beautiful gaunt face, masked with fear and pleading. I went to tell her I would not let my father know as long as she didn't do it again and never use the passage again either when, as I thought, she fainted. I caught right before the hard cobblestone path caught her first.

I tossed her over my broad shoulders and inserted how I was going to get her up ti my room without dropping her on the way up. I wasn't going to leave her to the guards, so I held with one hand and began using my strength to lug us both up the vines. She didn't weighing so, what seemed like an eternity later, I got back to the balcony. I laid her down onto the cushioned seat in the window sill and watched her lay unconscious, the steady rise and fall of her chest while she breathed. She must have been exhausted to swoon in front of the prince of Delterie.

Slowly her eyes began to flutter open as I smiled, knowing she was not going to die in my window sill. She looked around and sat up quickly, her breathing rapid. Her gray eyes were wide and she was very bewildered. I put my finger to my lips and handed her a slice bread and the glass of water I had prepared, I didnt want her to pass out of hunger again. She hesitantly bit into and it seemed like she melted into it, like the churned cream on top of it.

After she had finished, she swallowed hard and began speaking quietly. "What happened? I'm not a burden an I. I'm sorry I stole your trash, we just had a meal in a long time." it was all coming out so fast and just getting louder. I put my finger to my lips again.

She apologized for being too loud. "Dont worry about it but I need you to be gone by dawn if you can but until then, please answer some questions." I told her.

"Okay, what do you need to know?" she asked shyly.

Something about her voice gave me chills, good ones, down my spine. Somehow, I was tongue tied and i felt my breath Shudder out of my mouth. "What were you doing?" I asked timidly for some reason. "I mean, in our place walls rummaging through our trash." she flushed and looked at the cushiony rug.

"I, my family and I can't afford to buy meals and, Barry and I were looking for scraps of good in the village but there wasn't much because most of the commeners can't afford to waste food. I looked up at the palace and when I saw the servant tossing the food from the feast and I couldn't help myself. Barry was an old palace guard ad he told me of the passage. I used it to get to the trash bins to take the food you were just going to throw out and then, you caught me." she said boldly out if no where.

It made me feel good that she really was feeling better and was stronger than I thought her to be. "How old are you?" I really hoped she was around my age so maybe we could see each other again.

"I'll be sixteen in twelve days. Then I will be of age and have an arranged marriage if I can not find a respectable man." She seemed a little ruffled when she replied.

"And what's your name?" I really felt bad that it wasn't my first question like a true gentleman would ask.

"Coral, like in the ocean. Father thought it was feminine and strong." she replied, this tone proudly.

I extended my hand "I'm Prince Joshua Ryan Hutcherson. Nice to meet you Coral." sh took my hand and said "nice to meet you too." I couldn't stop it, I pulled her hand to my lips and kissed her knuckles. Her cheeks became crimson and I could feel the blood pooling in mine as well. I decided to stay on good sides with her and just got to know her instead of chastising her. Maybe she would spread good word about me in the village. Besides she was nice, and I would be lying if I didn't think she was gorgeous. And all too soon, sky went from black to gray, time for her to go. I didn't want her to go. It was wonderful being with a nice, pretty woman.

Wait, what was I thinking! She was a peasant, I didn't want to see her again, or gy cjills jesting her voice, or hope she was my age (which she was) or wonder about her marriage that would be happening in about a month. She was not my friend or anything for that matter. She trespasses and was a law breaker. I shouldn't be thinking about a future with her and I should have ratted her out, but especially the thought of her holding my hand and being in my room with me every night. But I did, I willed it to happen. I had never felt this way about any of te girls my father showed to me.
