"I Do Not Question"
I do not question his love,
I question the way he shows it,
The way he holds it in his strong hands as if it were fragile in comparison to him,
He often talks of love after he has already made me feel small,
He apologizes, makes me feel sorry, then loves on me,
Then once again-- ignores me,
When I was with him,
It felt as if I was decor,
But not pretty decor,
Maybe not decor at all,
But an ugly desk that was moved to the side of his room,
Along with the other small pieces of me that deems imperfect,
A pen made of my touchyness,
An eraser made of my forgetfulness,
A sharpner made of my loudness,
A dusty lamp made of my insecurity.
These are the contents of me you will find in a corner along with other useless knickknacks.
"Cowboy"
With your cowboy boots on,
You're always halfway out the door,
Leaving me to await your next arrival,
But, sometimes,
You show me that meaness you hide,
I'm not sure where it's kept on those days I long for your presence,
Maybe it's in those boots,
Maybe it's in your pocket,
But the days you would pull it out and show me
are my least favorite,
I don't know where you got this meaness,
I worry you find it within me,
That everything I say or do
could shatter my perfect moments
And I'd see you walk away in those boots.
"Fungus"
I wish I was enough for you,
And sadness grows like fungus,
Big ugly mushrooms that grow on the sides of old bark,
Inside the crevices of my tearducts,
Water flows,
You say I am enough but we both know you lie,
These lies are pretty-- like flowers,
Big petals and sturdy stems,
The type of tough promises wish they were.
"Annoying"
Just as the words leave my mouth,
You take them and squash them beneath your boot,
Leaving me alone in my own whirlwind,
Everything spinning while I wonder what I said,
Or what I did
