I know that Clay realizes that I need some space. To be honest, I thought he would come and knock on my door, but he left me be. I'm partly happy about that, but he makes me feel so much better. After a while, I text him.

me
clay will you please come in

He doesn't respond, but instead, I hear a knock on the door and Clay comes in with a sympathetic smile on his face.

"Hey," he whispers, plopping down on the bed next to me.

"Hi," I say, looking down at my sweaty hands. Clay puts his hand around my shoulder comfortingly. I look up at him with a smile.

We sit in a peaceful, relaxed silence, as my mind reels. What if I said too much in the tweet? Would Clay be mad?

"Are you mad at me?" I whisper hoarsely from all the crying.

"Why would I be mad?" he asks, running his hand through my long wavy hair.

"I don't know..." I feel pretty stupid right now.

"I'm not going to be mad at you, for anything, Maisy."

"Really?"

"Of course. There's nothing for me to be mad about."

"Really?"

"Yes!"

I look at Clay like I don't believe him. He sighs loudly and ruffles my hair, chuckling lightly.

"You guys are so dating," I hear Riley's voice from the door. Clay goes beet red.

"No!" he protests, hiding his cheeks in his hands.

"You wouldn't blush if you didn't actually have feelings for her," Riley states, smirking. "Oof, Maisy's not blushing. She doesn't like you back!" Clay has his head in his arms, trying to hide his face. I look down uncomfortably. I hope that Clay doesn't actually like me.

"She's like, five years younger, Clay. You're disgusting," Riley whips her head back and shuts the door, leaving Clay and I looking at our hands uncomfortably.

"I'm gonna go take Patches for a swim, bye." Clay stands up abruptly and leaves the room. I'm very confused. I follow him out, but he's nowhere in sight.
