I was babysitting at my neighbor’s house when everything happened.

Kim and Nathan, the two little kids I was looking after, were watching TV while I was preparing a snack for them. They started arguing since Kim wanted to change the channel because Barbie was on and Nathan wanted to continue watching SpongeBob. Just when I wanted to go stop their fight, my cell phone rang. It was my mom calling. She knew I was busy babysitting, so why would she call at this time? As a well trained babysitter, I ignored the call and took care of the kids first. When Nathan finally agreed to go read a book and let his sister watch her show, I looked at my phone and saw that I had a voicemail from my mom. I sighed, knowing that she was probably asking me again if everything was fine. She did that every time, and I was beginning to be tired of her worrying about me all the time. Nevertheless, I listened to it.

"Hi, we are calling from the ambulance. Your parents have just been in a car crash and they are in a critical condition. They are now being sent to St. Joseph's healthcare hospital. Please get there as soon as possible."

I was in a shock. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't leave the kids alone in the house, so started dialing my mom's number on my phone. She was always there for me and always knew what to do in any situation. She was always the first person I contacted whenever I was in trouble. I knew she could rush over at anytime. But then I realized, no, not this time. Not this time, it was me who had to rush over to her. The ambulance attendant said that my parents were in a critical condition...."But they will be fine," I told myself, "They won't die, that happens in books and movies...they'll be fine." So I took my phone again and started to call for a taxi. My hands were shaking and my voice was trembling as I spoke.

I didn't know what to do with Kim and Nathan, so I took them with me. They were clueless of what was going on, but they were too scared to ask as they saw the seriousness of the situation in my facial expressions. They didn't  dare to say anything and just followed me.

When I arrived, I told the kids to take a seat while I was talking to  the hospital administration secretary. She looked at me gravely and told me that she was sorry, that my dad already passed away and my mom was alive, but unconscious and only had a few more hours to live...

During the whole time, I tried to keep control of myself in front of the Kim and Nathan, but I couldn't take it anymore. I broke down and cried.
