ZAK
'Where is he?' an all too familiar female voice demands, dragging my attention away from one of the tours going on, to watch the monitors that overlooked the exterior of my museum.
Ivy was on a rampage, clearly annoyed, I could tell from the way she tapped her right foot impatiently and how she ran her fingers through her long crimson hair while glaring daggers into one of the new security guards who I hadn't made aware of who she was to me. Ivy was my assistant, she practically ran my life, and I may or may not have come here to hide because when I woke up my gut told me I was going to do something which annoyed her.
The fact the new guard was holding his ground, despite beginning to look like he was going to crack under Ivy's intense green eyes was pretty impressive. When Ivy was on a mission no one got in her way.
I reach for a walkie talkie, 'let her in, she's my assistant.'
Upon watching the guard remove his walkie talkie to respond to me I'm met with a rather colourful finger gesture from Ivy as she'd turn her glare on the security camera she knew I'd be watching.
The guard says something to Ivy which makes her shake her head before he opens one of the side doors so she didn't have the hassle of dealing with tour groups. People in the museum knew who Ivy was, and fans of the show who came here also knew who she was. I watch the monitors as Ivy slips in, however, a tour group comes around the corner, and Ivy manages to remember where one of the hidden passageways were located and seemingly walks into a wall and shuts the hidden door behind her as the tour group arrives on top of her.
I switch to the cameras within the hidden passages and easily locate Ivy who was seemingly having a conversation with someone. It was most likely the spirit she called Casper who had become quite smitten with Ivy and followed her around whenever she came here, there were a lot of unidentified spirits attached not just to the mansion but some of the items I'd purchased over the years. Ivy had the uncanny ability to know when something not of this world was around. Most girls would run away if a spirit tried to communicate with them, but Ivy was the opposite.
The door to my office swings open and Ivy enters glaring at me, 'hello-'
She holds a finger up to silence me and turns to the empty passage and waves, 'see you later Casper.'
In return, we hear two loud knocks, which meant yes. Once she closes the door leaving the two of us alone, she storms up to me and all but pokes me in the chest, using the fact I was sat down to her advantage for once.
'Don't you hello Ivy me when you know what you've done Zak,' she says angrily, which was against her usual calm demeanour.
I remove her finger from my chest and lean backwards, 'what have I done this time Ivy?'
She scoffs and throws her hands in the air, 'stop giving whatever flavour of the week or month my number, I'm your assistant and the shows, not theirs.'
Okay, that I was guilty of, but that had never earnt me a visit like this before, there was something else going on inside Ivy's head.
'What's going on Ivy?' I ask, genuinely curious, not just as a boss but as a friend.
Ivy slumps down on the sofa I kept in the office and puts her head in her hands and mumbles something incoherent. I roll my eyes at the childish antics and get up from my chair and sit down next to her, 'use your words, Ivy.'
She stops mumbling and lifts her face, 'my mums coming to town, a surprise visit.'
Okay, now the anger from earlier made more sense, it wasn't all to do with me, there was something about Ivy's mother that triggered something like pure hatred within her and she had every reason to be angry her mother was coming to Las Vegas. There was a colourful history between the pair, and let's just say her mother wasn't too fond of me or the show for taking her daughter away.
I rub circles on her back to calm her down, 'why would she come here, she hates Vegas and everything it stands for.'
Ivy shrugs her shoulders and leans her head against my shoulder, 'I don't know, but I have a sneaky feeling Jenna's involved. She's been acting strange this past week, and I've been hiding so she can't find me.'
It was my turn to snort, 'when is she not strange?'
Ivy giggles before playfully slapping me, Ivy got on great with Jenna and it was nice of her to have a girlfriend out here, but Jenna wasn't a big fan of mine, it was probably a topic of conversation between her and Ivy's mother.
'I need you to fill in some forms to give the go-ahead for a new season of the show Zak, so I did have a reason to come here other than rant about your hookup and my family life.'
I watch as she pulls a small stack of forms out of her bag and hands them to me, it was the same paper me and the guys signed year after year to keep the show on the network. I never was a big fan of paperwork, but Ivy made sure I got everything signed and dotted before any deadline.
'Give me a second to fill these out, what are you going to do about your mum and Jenna?'
I get up and head to the desk where I had a pen. Behind me, I hear Ivy stretch and stand up, 'I'm going to hide in the office because Jenna hates going there, and when my mum shows up double lock the doors and windows.'
I nod along as I sign the papers, they both seemed like pretty solid plans. When I was done here for the day I'd find a way to apologise to Ivy for leaving her to deal with my many girlfriends, and a way to show her how much I appreciated all she did for me and the show.
'Here you go all signed,' I say proudly, turning around and handing the papers back to Ivy who slips them in her bag.
Ivy smiles, 'see you later Zak, have fun stalking people.'
I wanted to tell her that what I did in this office wasn't stalking, I liked to keep an eye on my museum, yes I trusted security and the managers, but like with any project I had to have total control.
Having no answer for her, I walk over and open the door, 'good luck hiding.'
She salutes me, ducks under my arm and into the dimly lit passageway. I immediately feel a cold chill as she enters which meant Casper was waiting for her. My office was warded against any spirit or entity so out of the whole museum this was the one real sanctum. I shut the door and decide to go back to 'watching' not 'stalking' because I had a couple of hours to kill.
