IVY
Any normal boss would have chewed me out for coming to their workplace, causing a small scene with security, barging into their office and shouting at them, but Zak wasn't your normal kind of boss. As soon as I mentioned my mum coming to visit he knew he wasn't the source of my anger, our mother-daughter relationship wasn't the best and it never would be perfect. After dropping the documents off at the network, I decide to do a coffee run knowing at least Billy and Jay would be in the office editing, and maybe Aaron so it was safe to get him something as well.
Pulling up to the plain-looking office building, I park next to Aaron's car meaning my gut instinct was right, otherwise he would have pouted if I hadn't gotten him anything. Not bothering to get my security pass out because the guard never seemed to be behind the desk, I make my way over to the bank of lifts skillfully carrying four coffees and a bag of goodies in the other because no doubt the guys needed a snack break.
It was always odd walking onto the fifth floor and seeing 'Ghost Adventures' on one of the door signs, it made the job just that bit more official. It was a much more relaxed environment in the offices than when filming on location. I find Aaron, Billy and Jay in the makeshift edit suite and knock on the door.
'I bring coffee and snacks,' I call out cheerfully.
Three sets of eyes fall on me and like usual Aaron is the first to jump up from his chair wearing a big smile on his face, 'I love you, Ivy.'
I laugh and hand him his drink, 'you say that to anyone who brings you food and drink.'
Aaron shakes his head, 'no I don't.'
Billy appears next to Aaron and takes both his and Jay's drinks, 'Jay did a coffee run last week and you said you loved him.'
I place the snack bag on the table and pat Aaron on the shoulder, 'it's what makes you so special.'
He sticks his tongue out at me and snatches up the snack bag before retreating over to Billy and Jay. I sip my coffee and leave the room not wanting to interrupt the editing process any longer.
I headed over to my desk which was in front of Zak's office when he was here and made myself comfortable. I turn on the computer and immediately open my emails to see what junk I had to deal with today, I decided to focus on emails related to the new season of the show because no way would the guys, not that they were lazy, but they needed to focus on getting the current season to air.
'HELLO BITCH, YOU'VE BEEN IGNORING ME,' Jenna shouts quite close to my desk, making me jump.
I hold my hand over my heart and look up at my sometimes obnoxiously loud best friend shushing her, 'the guys are editing in the other room Jenna, you can't just come in here shouting.'
Jenna folds her arms over her chest and huffs, 'I wouldn't have to if you didn't ignore me, Ivy.'
I roll my eyes, 'I know you have to be in league with my mum, why else would she come out here to Las Vegas?'
Jenna matches my eye roll, 'we are both concerned about you Ivy, which is why I've finally come up with my New Years resolution.'
I briefly glanced at the calendar on the bottom of the computer screen, it was March, a little bit late to be making resolutions.
'Is everything ok out here Ivy?' Aaron asks, appearing in the doorway of the edit suite with Billy and Jay in tow.
Jenna turns her attention to the three and smiles, 'everything is grand thanks for asking. I was just telling Ivy I know my New Years resolution.'
I mouth 'I don't know' at the guys.
'I thought I heard your voice, Jenna, long time no see,' Zak pipes up, and all five of us turn our attention to the main office door.
There was clear sarcasm in Zak's voice, both he and Jenna did not get along, the main sticking point being me and who knew what was best for me.
I clear my throat, 'sorry for ignoring you Jenna, can you please tell us the resolution so we can get back to work.'
Jenna claps her hands together and points at me, 'you're my New Years resolution, Ivy.'
'What?' all four guys say in unison, all sounded confused.
If my jaw could hit the desk it would have because Jenna was not making any sense, 'err Jenna elaborate please.'
'I work for that private dating company, and in the past, you've scoffed at me and called it overpriced. Well, I resolve to get you a man, so you can have some normality in your life. I have paid and set you up a profile, and have scrutinised potential dates so you get only the best.'
Well, that explained me being her resolution for the year. Jenna worked at one of those expensive prestigious dating companies, not some app like Tinder, and never once had I shown interest in having a profile set up, especially one I had no say in.
'Do I get to at least look at the profile? I mean this is kind of bizarre even for you Jenna. I love you, but don't think we have the same taste in guys,' I reply honestly.
Jenna throws her hands in the air dramatically before walking over to my computer and opening a new tab, 'I can't believe you don't trust your friend Ivy, but fair is fair, yes we don't have similar tastes but at least give a couple of guys a chance. What's the worst that can happen?'
'They could be a serial killer,' Zak answers.
'They could be part of a secret cult that does human sacrifices,' Aaron interjects.
'They could have mummy issues,' Billy speaks up.
'They could be a douchebag,' Jay responds.
I can't help but laugh under my breath at the guy's honest answers to Jenna's question. Yes, I trusted Jenna had my best interests at heart, but the guys also knew me and had a much deeper vetting policy than probably how they look, what's their job and how much they earn.
Jenna logs me into the dating website and clicks profile, 'voila one dating profile, don't worry I left out some details, can't be scaring people off before the first date. Now I've got to get back to work.'
She kisses me on the cheek, grabs her bag which she'd placed on my desk at some point and saunters out of the office. If I played for the other team I'd be tempted because Jenna was stunning head to toe. She was a Californian girl through and through, from the naturally tanned skin to blonde hair and blue eyes, everything was natural with her because God gifted her in all the right places. I was surprised Zak hadn't tried it on with her when I first introduced them, if I was being blunt she was just his type.
I lean back in my desk chair and stare at the profile in front of me, at least she'd picked a nice photo, showing that I could wear colour instead of all black, 'I wish I'd done a better job at hiding now.'
Aaron, Billy and Jay all swarm around my screen, while I notice Zak hadn't moved from the doorway. I get up and walk over to him, 'everything ok?'
He nods, 'Jenna is a real piece of work sometimes. You would have been better hiding out at the museum.'
I grin, 'and watch you stalk people no thank you.'
'Here I got you this as an apology for you know what,' he pulls out a black wrapped box from behind his back and my eyes light up knowing its contents.
I make grabby hands and he laughs before placing the box of chocolates in my open hands. I had a sweet tooth. It was well known and documented, and there was this one really expensive chocolate shop in Vegas. Zak took me to once and I was hooked, the only problem was that it wasn't cheap so these gifts were a luxury and I cherished them.
'Thank you, Zak, I will try and make these last more than a day but no promises.'
He leans down and ruffles my hair grinning, 'now let's see what damage that friend of yours has done.'
'Oh my god Ivy, Jenna wasn't kidding when she left parts out. I wonder how dates will react when they find out what goes bump in the night are real,' Aaron jokes.
I let Zak drag me back over to the computer and I stand there for the next half hour while the guys pull apart the profile and wonder what kind of guys Jenna deemed suitable for me to date.
