Your eyes shot open. You felt completely sore all over, as if you were sleeping for quite an amount of time. At first your vision was blurry, but it cleared up as you slowly sat up. You took in your surroundings, noticing that it was a completely different room than what you saw in your dream. Speaking of which, you tried to grasp the details from the dream, but they were slowly slipping to the corners of your mind, giving you only but a vague remembrance of what it was. Even if you were unsure of what it was, you knew that you weren't in the place you dreamt of. The room you are in is a bedroom, and it looked extremely familiar to you. You weren't sure where you were, but your body felt relaxed at the situation. The walls around you were a lovely (f/c) color, and there was a closet in front of your bed, along with the bedroom door to the left of the closet, probably leading to the rest of what you assumed is a house. There was a night drawer to the left of your bed, and there was another table on the right corner of your room with a TV.
You glanced over at the night drawer to your left, seeing a digital clock which gave you the time, '9:00 AM', along with a photo frame and a phone resting on top of it. Curious, you grabbed the photo frame carefully and looked at the contents of it. There you saw yourself, smiling at you, with your right arm over the shoulder of a short skeleton with a jacket and basketball shorts. Your left arm was over a small, yellow dinosaur with a white lab coat, and who overall seemed shy. Behind her was a tall, fish monster with red hair pulled into a ponytail, grinning victoriously at the camera. To the right of the fish lady, was a tall skeleton with a scarf wrapped around his neck, along with him wearing a battle body. You also noticed there was a small human in front of you, the short dinosaur, and the short skeleton. Their eyes were closed, and their short hair was straight and framed their face. They also had a striped sweater and pants.
You thought these characters were very familiar, and you were digging for old memories of them as you stared at the picture. You knew them, you just couldn't quite put your finger on it. Their names... What were they? You hummed in thoughtfulness as you turned around the photo frame, carefully removing the photo from it to carry along with you. You felt it was important to keep this photo close to you, it may help you recall who you are, where you are, and who are your family and friends. You put in your pockets, and got up from the bed, stretching your back, legs and arms as you heard cracks. "Man, how long have I been out?" Your voice came out a hoarse whisper as you spoke to yourself. You decided to wander around the room while attempting to regain any recollection you could have that explains why you ended up here. There was a muffled ringing resonating through the room, and you were unsure of where it came from. Apparently, it was coming from the night drawer. You approached it and grasped the handle of the drawer, slowly sliding it open to find yourself a familiar device. You grabbed the phone, tapping it gently on the screen for it to turn on, showing multiple missed call notifications and messages.
Messages from contacts such as 'Undyne', 'Alphys', 'Papyrus', 'Toriel', 'Frisk', appeared, although the most frequent ones were 'Sans'. Seeing these names brought a spark in the back of your mind, almost as if you had something to say at the tip of your tongue. They seemed so familiar, why couldn't you remember who they were to you? Obviously they were the people in your picture frame. You huffed in frustration, deciding to open 'Sans's texts. The password pops up and you enter the it in out of muscle memory, surprising you. The phone opens up to the messages.
"Hello? Y/N? Are you ok?"
"Y/N? Please answer.. We're all a little worried here kiddo."
"Wherever you are, I hope you're safe. I just wanted to let you know, we're looking for you."
"Hey. A lot's changed since you disappeared. I don't know what happened to you, and I doubt that you may be able to see these texts, but tibia honest with you kiddo, I feel that someday maybe I will reach out to you. I don't think I can cover everything in one text, so as a promise, when you're around.. Please call me."
Delivered from 'Sans'.
You stared at the screen in interest, uncertain on what to do. Should you call? Something tells you to do so, but you could also drop it by the hat. You could never meet this familiar stranger, never deal with whatever may ensue with this reunion. Live a normal life and carry on like normal. But you know deep down, that no matter what you do, fate's strings will always bring you back to where you belong. After all, there's no way out of what you're already a part of.

You press the call button. The phone's ringing filled the quiet room as you sat on your bed, glancing around in an attempt to busy yourself while waiting for the receiver to pick up. Finally, the ringing stopped. The noise giving the indication that the call was picked up sounded. Your eyes widened as you heard a familiar but slightly broken deep voice sound from the speaker, it's tone carrying overwhelming sadness and hope.
"Y/N?" The voice spoke. Your mouth was agape for a second, then you tried to speak out. Your voice came out as a croak, small and scratchy as if you hadn't spoke in years. Obviously, that was the case.
"Sans?" An intake of breath in surprise sounded from your phone. "You're.. Actually there? Where were you? Why didn't you answer my texts? What the hell happened??" He started to bombard you with questions, frustration slightly hinted at his tone. "I'm not sure." You responded, frowning at how disappointing your answer was. But there truly was nothing else to be said, after all you didn't remember a single thing. "Ok, then where are you now?"
You paused, thinking. Home. You realized. This is my home. How couldn't I have realized that?
"I'm home Sans. Why?"
"What?! This whole time you were in your room?.. We checked everywhere, including your house, and you weren't there.. Heh, it's like you ghosted us in our own world."
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, getting up from your bed and leaving the room. That's strange. When you woke up, you were in your bed, so you must've been there the whole time.. But sleeping for 3 years? Waking up with no memories? It could be very possible you were somewhere else, but what were you doing? "I hope you're not planning to up and disappear again kiddo." The skeleton on the receiving end speaks, breaking you out of your entrancement. "No, I'm not Sans." You stated, exploring your way through the house to get used to your bearings. You couldn't remember much of anything, but thankfully it was easy to tell where the front door was since it was just a regular two story house. You opened the front door and gasped.
"You know what, I'll come over right now to see you- What?"
In front of you, there was a regular ol' neighborhood, and beyond that was the city. But there was no sun, no blue sky. No clouds. Just blank, empty, space beyond the city.
"What the hell? Kid you said you were at your house, but you ain't in here at all." Sans said almost accusingly, almost as if he was demanding any answers.
"Yeah.. Sans, I don't think I'm home."
Hello to anyone who finds this book! I'm sorry I took forever on this chapter, I wasn't sure how I should start it out. Frankly, I started it on a whim, but I think it'll be interesting to see what I'll decide when I write. I hope that I won't take so long to update this book, and I'll try out either updating daily or every two days since it's winter break right now.
Please bear with me! I apologize if Sans currently sounds OOC right now, I'll develop my skills on writing him and the other AUs later, and I promise a lot more puns will be coming from him soon! ;)
Stay tuned!~
