As soon as we walk into the mall, I hear Chota yelling our names, relief apparent in his voice, "I'm so glad! I was worried because you guys didn't come back this morning."He engulfs us in a hug, I start smiling, feeling good to finally be safe.
The bone crushing hug not lasting more than a second before I hear Karube groan in pain, "That hurts!"
"You're hurt?" Chota asks worriedly
"I'm fine." Karube lies
"No you're not, let me take a look at it," I tell him, helping him over to the couch that was in the corner of the place we were staying at.
I set him down, finally relieving the pain in my shoulder that was still gushing blood. I grunt in irritation.
Chota comes up behind me, "You're hurt too?"
"It'll heal soon," I tell Chota sincerely.
I start cleaning up Karube's wound and he takes a walkie talkie out of his pocket.
"What's that," I question him.
"A walkie talkie, I picked it up off one of the gunmen," he says as he looks behind me at Arisu, "I heard someone talking about a beach," He tells us seriously.
"Someone radioed in?" Chota asks.
"Yes."
I finished wrapping his wound, and he tells me gratefully, "Thank you."
I nod my head at him, already sitting down next to Shibuki, cleaning my own wound.
"If we go to that place called The Beach, we might be able to discover something," Karube explains.
"Like where all the people who disappeared went?" Shibuki asks.
"Could there be an evacuation shelter? Maybe everyone else is there." Karube questions.
"Did the person say where the beach was?" I ask curiously and everyone turns their head to look at Karube for answers.
Karube shakes his head.
"Are the closest beaches to us in Shonan, Izu, and Ito?" Arisu asks.
"They're so far." Chota states sadly.
"We can get there. It's just a matter of time." Karube looks around at all of us.
"What should we do? Shall we try going there?" Arisu asks, looking at everybody for an answer.
"In any case, we have no choice but to trust that voice for now," Karube says putting down the walkie talkie.
"Chota won't be able to make it with his leg injury," Shibuki reminds us.
"I agree, even if we did know where the beach was, three out of five of us are injured. We probably wouldn't make it far," I explain.
"You guys are right," Arisu tells us, we all look down defeated.
"Both of us... our visas will expire today," Shibuki refers to her and Chota, the atmosphere around us becoming sour.
I look back up at Chota and Shibuki, both of their faces filled with despair.
"We'll clear today's game and increase your visa days. And then, let's search for the beach tomorrow." Karube tells us confidently. Karube glances at everybody to see if they agree.
"I'll go to the beach." Karubes states, "No matter what."
I look at him and he has a determined look on his face, "I will do whatever it takes, we will still have hope," he adds.
I spent the rest of the day walking around the mall. Going into whatever store interested me. I stop in front of an appliance store and see Karube walking towards the exit of the mall. My guess is that he's going to his old work. My thoughts switch to my mom and the life I had before this one, wondering if she's alright. I hope whoever is watching her is doing a good job. If there really was an evacuation I doubt they would leave the patients in the hospital, and I highly doubt they are worried about being paid. I try to convince myself this is what happened, if it isn't... I don't want to think about what would happen to my mom.
Karube walks up to me, breaking me from my thoughts, "You should stay here tonight while we help Shibuki and Chota renew their visas."
I look at him confused, "Why?"
"I want you to gather supplies, so that we have enough for the trip to the beach."
"But. . ." I look down at his injury.
"I'll be fine," he says, putting a hand on my shoulder.
I nod at him telling him I agree, I will admit I'd rather not join a game again tonight, I'm too sore and I could really use the rest.
He starts walking away, before turning back quickly, "Oh! and here," he says handing me a small knife from his pocket, "Just in case."
I smile at him. But before he turns away from me, I give him a quick hug, "Be safe, Karube."
He pats my head in a brotherly way before leaving me standing in the middle of the mall. With a new mission to collect supplies, I continue looking around the mall carrying a huge bag to put the stuff into.
When it's just about to become dark out, I head back up towards our temporary home to see them all before they go. I see Arisu, Chota, and Shibuki about to head out and place the bag down.
"Be safe guys," I say and they all look at me, acknowledging my presence.
Arisu walks towards me followed by Chota and Shibuki. We all stand in silence for a brief moment until I give Arisu and Chota a sincere hug. I turn to look at Shibuki, giving her a smile, "Look out for them, will you?" I say playfully. She smiles, "I will."
They leave me to go to their game, my anxiety keeps me awake, waiting for their return home. In the meantime, I get another bag and search for more supplies, doing what Karube asked me to.
Sometime after, what I could assume was midnight, I drifted off to sleep, my exhaustion getting the best of me. I pray that when I wake up, my friends will all be here with their visas renewed, waking me up with their laughs of happiness. The same one's I would hear back then when we would all sneak off to some place and forget the problems around us.
I woke up, the sun shining brightly onto my face, I opened my eyes but saw nobody. My chest tightened as my anxiety builds.
"Karube?" I shout. Nothing.
"Chota!?" Nothing.
"Arisu!?" Nothing.
I walk out of the room.
"Hey! Where are you guys?" I shouted into the mall, hoping that they just went to search for things in another store.
Nothing.
Rub my hands over my face hoping I was still dreaming.
The sharp pain in my shoulder made me realize, I was awake, and they weren't here.
I quickly ran back into the room, checking if the supplies were still there, maybe they left without me. Not that it would make it any better, but at least they aren't dead.
The bags were still there.
