Live or Die

We make our way down dark alleys till we find a building, it was so bright compared to everything else that it makes me feel a bit eerie and sketched out.

"GM building," I read out the sign at the top of the building

We walk in finding a sign that resembled the billboard that we first saw saying

THE GAME ARENA IS UP AHEAD

Arisu looks at all of us, stopping at me and nodding, telling us to continue going in farther.

We turn the corner to see an elevator, making our way towards it, I notice a laser kind of border flash in my peripheral. It confuses me but I decide to shrug it off, probably just imagining things I think to myself. We all stop at a table with a bunch of phones sitting on it.

The sign below it stating

1 PER PERSON

We all look at each other, fear imminent in my eyes because of this weird situation. Arisu picks up a phone, followed by Karube, then me, then Chota.

I look down to examine the phone, once I turn it on a loading screen pops up stating

FACE RECOGNITION IN PROGRESS PLEASE WAIT A MOMENT

"It has facial recognition," Chota explains pulling me out of my thoughts

"Can we use these phones?" Karube asks with wide eyes

I quickly look down at the phone again trying to find a way to get to the internet so I can try to search for whats going on.

"There's no signal," Arisu explains

I sigh, "Maybe try making a phone call," I question

"We can't make phone calls with this." Chota says disappointingly

I sigh once again, but this time louder than before.

The phone starts speaking, a robot sounding woman says, "Please wait for the game to commence." I also notice a timer counting down from 2 minutes and the voice says again, "Two minutes until registration closes. There are currently four participants"

"What's this?" Arisu asks

"A game," A woman comes out of nowhere and says.

We all look up at the woman, surprised that we aren't the only ones here after searching for the whole day.

"There's a human," Chota exclames

"Hey! Do you know where everyone went?" Karube says defensively

"Karube, be nice to the woman." I glare at him

She walks up to where we are and I notice the lasers flash again.

She goes over to Chota grabbing his id card out of his pocket and through it towards the doorway. A laser beam comes out of the ceiling and strikes it down to the ground.

"So that's what the lasers are for. . ." I say my curiosity finally being answered.

My friends look at me confused

"What was that just now?" Karube asks still confused

"A laser, isn't it obvious," I state playfully

"Once you cross the borderline, you can never return," The woman states, "You have no choice but to participate in the game."

Arisu walks over going really close to the border, too close in my opinion.

"Arisu!" I shout and he stops, the red lasers glaring right in front of him

"It might be best not to go any further" Karube states
