-Zain Danial-
I was starting to create a new routine now. A routine that was debatably more efficient and a lot more fun than my last.
I wake up every morning at 5 am, brush my teeth, make a protein shake and head to the gym room. There I work out for an hour, have a shower and then get ready for work. Carla meets up with me at this point where we have breakfast together or I buy us something on the way to work if I'm able to convince her to let me, but her cooking is pretty good so she wins me over most of the time, not that it's something I'd complain about.
We go to work after that, performing our tasks, our duties, perfectly.
I realised that it wasn't just in dancing where we were in sync. I was able to read her better now, it was weird it took this long at all considering I can usually see right through people but maybe that was one of the many things about her that made her such a pleasant challenge. I was able to tell when she was getting tired during the day, when things were an inconvenience to her, when she was trying hard to remember something that she hadn't noted down.
I could also tell when she was switching from her personal self to that of a business one as well as another persona that I only noticed recently. When she was pretending not to be the CEO, when she was with other workers in the business, she had a separate personality there too.
Knowing this, I was able to work within the same step as her. When she was tired, I made her tea or coffee, when things were being an inconvenience, I did my best to help her, and when she's forgotten something, I can usually remind her because I was always there. Even when she switched between her persona's, when she became different people with different attitudes and knowledge and history, I adapted to them.
I realised that's what it meant to be a personal assistant.
It wasn't one-sided either. Carla had a talent that I have never seen in anyone else, it was the ability to understand, to empathise, to learn, to teach whilst also being incredibly kind. When I was uncomfortable with something, she'd help me through it without making me feel as if I was lacking behind. When I'm tired and impatient, she clears my day without having to ask me. She doesn't expect any more from me than what I'm capable of and what is needed, and most of all, she appreciates it.
She appreciates the work, the dedication, and makes sure I know by giving me what I need without me having to ask her. She gives me kindness, she shows she cares. She understands.
Something I thought was impossible.
Yesterday after work, my friends wanted to come over to where I was staying once they found out about what had happened to my apartment. I called Carla and asked if that was okay, challenging if what she had told me the first day at her house was true, and sure enough, she casually says, "Yep, as long as the rules apply." In the background, I hear the opening of a can.
She was probably going to be working late and I had wondered if she was going to get to eat anything but the conversation didn't last long enough for me to ask. After telling her she could rest assured she gave me a light chuckle telling me she trusts me before saying that she had to get back to work. The only lasting thought from the phone call was that I wondered if she really did trust me at all.
My friends came over around an hour later, bewildered by the place and excited to explore everything. I shook my head but couldn't help but grin at them as they ventured around.
"You said this was the woman's place right?" Wesly asked jumping into the conversation pit.
"Yeah,"
Ben nudged from beside me before going to lie on the other side of the pit, "I didn't know you were into that kink, Zain," His comment took me back a bit as the rest of the guys laughed.
