You and Keigo cleaned up the dishes used to make dinner and moved to the living room to put on a movie. Keigo sat on the couch while you brought over some popcorn and tea and sat a cushion away from him to put your legs up and the popcorn between you two while you leaned on the arm rest. "So did you pick a movie?" You asked.
"I was thinking Hidden Figures. You down for it?"
"Of course!" You had always heard good things about the movie, but never got around to watching it. The movie wasn't just about women empowerment, but African-American women empowerment.
Keigo turned the movie on and the sound of the 20th Century Fox introduction excited you. He noticed the spark in your eyes. It was very easy to tell he was thinking "Good job, me." with the sly smirk he had on his face. He diverted his attention to the screen as soon as the sound of a little black girl was counting while kicking a pinecone.
Even Keigo himself was thoroughly enjoying the movie even if it's just barely ten minutes in. Since meeting him all those months ago, you learned he's always believed in an easy way of life no matter who you were. Based on his expressions, he was admiring the three women on the screen. Working through segregation and racism in the 60s was not an easy thing, but they made it as some of the greatest minds and American heroes in history. He envied that.
You could see the smile grow on his face when Mr. Harrison knocked down the colored women's bathroom sign. "Here at NASA we all pee the same color." Harrison said. You watched Keigo with soft eyes.
"You really like this part, huh?" You said with a smile.
Without taking his eyes off the screen, he responded, "It's iconic. A turning point." He averted his eyes toward you. You could feel your face heat up slightly and felt nothing but positive energy from his gaze. Everything he said was genuine. You knew all too well that some gazes promised protection, but his promised more. It was non-judgemental, soft. His eyes, pools of pure gold, showed the real him. It was something you could never get over; something that always made you feel warm. "Hey, earth to (Y/N)." You were snapped out of your trance by a popcorn kernel hitting your forehead.
"Hey!" You noticed the movie was already almost over when Keigo realized you were spacing out. "Oh."
"You alright?" He asked while leaning closer to you and lightly brushing your arm with his hand.
"Yeah, yeah. Just kind of tired." You lied. You didn't want this moment with him to end
"Why didn't you just say that?" Keigo moved the empty bowl of popcorn onto the side table and moved the pillows between you to the side, leaving an open space. "Come here." He sat there with wide, welcoming arms. You didn't think anything of it and moved into him. You never noticed this before, but Keigo was incredibly warm. You noticed his wings begin to wrap around you like a soft blanket. Every part of this was comfortable; his warmth, his strong arms, his soft wings, even his soothing heartbeat and slow breathing.
Once you were comfortable, you chuckled and said, "All the ladies must love this side of you, huh?"
"'All the ladies' have never seen this side of me." His hand was gently stroking your arm and kept you close. His comment caught you off guard, but you didn't mind. You smiled and melted into his warm embrace. Without realizing it, his body heat made you drowsy making you fall asleep.
It wasn't too long after when you finally woke up again in his arms, but this time he was asleep as well. You've never been one for snores, but his were soft and were almost like a lullaby. The tv volume was low, but not muted. Maybe he was watching something on his own for a while?
You sat up and looked around your living room trying to find the time. Your phone on the coffee table lit up from a notification and also displaying the time "It's already quarter past ten?" You mumbled to yourself. Keigo began to shift a bit. Nice going, idiot, you woke up sleeping beauty. He took a deep breath and scrunched his eyes. Slowly opening his eyes, he was immediately fixed on you.
