My dream was always to move to America when I turned 21. And two weeks after my birthday party I was on a plane on my way to start this new part of my life. I had already arranged an apartment to rent. It will be the first time living on my own and I was so excited!
I land at lunch time, so before I leave the airport I grab something to eat and message my friend. Nadi was my best friend from primary school before her parents moved away. I was so excited to see her more and I am so grateful that she said she would pick me up. I made a mental note to go car shopping soon! As I wondered out to the baggage claim to grab the rest of my stuff I see Nadi waving madly at me and we both take off running at each other. She slams in to me at full force and I pick her up and hug her hard! 'Bon!!!' I put her down and pick up my bag. 'I've missed you so much I'm so glad your finally here!' Nadi says as we move to grab my other bags. 'How was your flight?' 'Ah not to bad I slept most of the way so I'm ready to get your full tour of LA today!' I say. We make our way out to Nadis car and load my stuff in. 'Ok first stop is Starbucks this will be come a staple of your daily life now!' Nadi states as we pull out of the car park and head off to start her tour.
'What do you already have at the apartment?' Nadi asks sipping on her iced coffee. 'Ahh I have a bed and everything that goes along with that and a few kitchen things, why's that?'
I ask. Nadi puts down the coffee and turns to me and very dramatically says. 'I am going to introduce you to Walmart! You can thank me later' as she turns in her seat and pulls out of the Starbucks car park. She takes off at such speed that I spill my coffee all over my pants. 'Hey careful mad max! I don't want to die my first day in America!' She just laughs at me. It was only a two minute drive to Walmart and as we were getting out of the car I am amazing by just how big the store was. It was easily twice as big as any back home. 'Wow!' 'Yeah everything is bigger in America' Nadi says as she grabs my hand and pulls me in to the store.
We wonder around for about an hour before paying and loading everything in to the car. At this point it was all but full so we decided to head to my new place to unload. Nadi had already been to the new place to get the keys and put any package in side for me. God bless her! It took us three loads to get everything inside. 'Let's order food while we get ready' Nadi suggested. 'Absolutely I feel like pizza! What about you?' I ask in reply. 'Yes definitely I'll order while you unpack and set up the bed' she jumps off the kitchen floor and grabs her phone. I walk in to the bedroom and finish pulling all the bits out of the box. I didn't realise when I ordered all this stuff that it is very close to the stuff I have in my room back home. For a second I really miss my family. They are my everything but then I remember that they are coming over in a month. At that moment Nadi busts in to the room and informs me that pizza is on its way. 'Cool thanks lovely' I shout back. 'I'm almost done here. Also we need to think about getting ready soon if we are gonna go out. Where are you taking me anyway?' I ask getting up and walking in to the kitchen were Nadi was putting away food in the pantry. 'It's a surprise' she said winking at me. I gave her a look of confusion. And walked back to my previous task.
Nadi didn't interrupt me again till pizza showed up. We sat on the living room floor eating pizza and doing our makeup together. I get up to get dressed cause knowing me if I put my good clothes on and then ate dinner I would get it everywhere. I laugh at my self and grab my shoes on my way out of the room. I pack up dinner while Nadi gets ready when I get a notification Uber that our ride was here. 'NADI UBER IS HERE! HURRY UP!' I shout down the hallway. I gather my bag and keys and head for the door as Nadi comes bounding through the kitchen, pulling her shoes on as we go. I lock the door and follow her down to the Uber. Once we were in and on our way I turned to her and asked 'where are we going? Are you going to tell me yet?' She just shock her head. ' it's a surprise!' She said as she pulled her phone out and turned her attention messaging some people. After a 20 minute drive we make it to night club called LUX. 'Ahh Nadi the line for this place is around the corner we are never getting in here' I turn to face her as she takes off for the door. 'Nadi what what are you doing?!?' She walks right up to the bouncer and he steps aside and let's her through. 'Come on' she calls to me. ' I'm taking you to meet the owner of this place!' She grabs my hand and we take off towards the bar. She orders two rum and Coke's and a straight scotch. We walk over to a door in the back of the club and she knocks on the door. 'Enter'
