[She/her pronouns]
[Lot of angst, with some fluffy moments to dull the pain]
[I recommend listening to "As the World Caves In" while reading this lol]
"Please, I'm not ready! Not yet!" Zeke screamed with a raspy voice. He kicked his legs, but they were tied down to the ground. He tried to thrash his arms, but those were tied back as well. The man felt like an animal. Feral and forgotten.
"I can't do this! Let me g-" Before he could get out the rest of his futile pleas, a chain was wrapped around his mouth. The man tried screaming again, but it was muffled through the device.
He looked out onto the display infront of him. A cold and cavernous area with soldiers scattered about. Below him stood the inheritor of the beast titan, and a soldier with a syringe. Mortality was so close at this moment.
The needle plunged into the future beast titan's neck. The fluid slowly retreated into their veins and their eyes became cold. Watching the once human warrior turning into a pure titan made his stomach sink. They were no longer human. They were a monster.
It was so tall. Massive. Even for the former beast titan holder to come across this monstrosity was too much for him to bare. He sobbed. Each fiber in his body wanted to run away but he couldn't. He couldn't even think.
The titan stared him in the eyes as it opened it's gaping mouth. Zeke became numb and unfeeling. He sunk back into an abyss of emptiness. He was gone. Just another name in history, soon to be forgotten.
"Wake up boy wonder!" A melodic, sing-songey voice beckoned him awake. His heavy eyelids opened up and his eyes adjusted to the darkness. Beside him lied his girlfriend, [y/n]. Her gleaming, [e/c] eyes were feigning joy. They both knew what would happen soon.
"You're awfully chipper." He murmured, seeing past her act. She was just as scared as he was. Zeke looked out the window to his left and noticed how dark it was outside. Rain bucketed down on the roof, which made him wonder how he slept so soundly.
"Someone has to be." [Y/n] sighed. "What time is it? The sun hasn't even come up yet." The tired man mumbled, dropping his head back down on the pillow below. "It's five a.m." His lover replied as she extended out her hand to pet his sandy blonde hair.
"Five a.m.?!" He repeated with shock. "I want this day to be your best, so we should get an early start." She whispered. Zeke didn't know what to think of this.
"In all honesty, I would just like to sleep all day before they haul me off. I don't wanna think about all of this. A disappointing day would be best to make me feel a lot less depressed about leaving this world. If I have fun today, I'll miss it all the more."
"Don't talk like that, Zeke."
He had always been in touch with the curse of ymir. When he first inherited the beast titan thirteen years ago he was aware of what would happen on this fateful day. He would be consumed by the next in line. Zeke knew this, and over the years he came to grips with his mortality. That was, until [y/n] came around a few months ago.
The woman gave him a reason to be alive. And now, his relationship was being stripped away. What hurt him the most was the thought of her being alone after he departed. Zeke didn't want to cry, as he knew how much worse this would make the both of them feel. He couldn't let her know how broken hearted he was about the situation.
"I never would've inherited this thing if I knew I would've met you." Zeke thought. He didn't dare to say it aloud, but the idea echoed in his mind. Bouncing off the sides of his skull and trying to force its way out of his lips. He knew she wouldn't want to hear that now.
"I made pancakes! I know it's our favorite meal to share." She cooed, combing her fingers through his unwashed hair. "How about you go bathe and I'll set the table?" [Y/n] suggested.
What was the point of eating, sleeping, talking, and bathing when he would be a mangled corpse in the stomach of another person soon?
Regardless of what he thought, normalcy was important at this moment. Denial was important. As far as the couple was concerned, Zeke didn't have any titan powers. He was normal for just this day.
He stepped out of the shower and put on the clothes he was wearing yesterday. The usual beige pants and dress shirt. He slung the long coat over his shoulder as he stepped outside the bathroom and hung it up on the hook attached to the front door. The day before, the pair sold his clothes to a charity so he only had that one outfit left. It was odd.
"C'mon!" His girlfriend called, sitting down at the table with two plates of pancakes infront of her. The fluffy discs were stacked up in a high tower.
"I can barely see your face over those pancakes." Zeke chuckled, taking his seat at the table next to [y/n]. "Well if you eat some you'll be able to see me better! Now fill up. You barely ate dinner last night, you must be starving." She demanded with a sweet undertone. He smiled and began to slice up the pancakes set out infront of him.
His girlfriend did the same and poured some syrup on top of the stack. Zeke humourously watched as she shoved the food into her mouth like it was her last meal.
After all, it was his last meal. Or at least, one of his last. Zeke didn't want to eat for the rest of the day anyways.
"Eat." She playfully commanded, shoving a forkful of pancakes to his lips. Zeke took a bite and smiled.
After breakfast, [y/n] suggested they go on their morning walk like always since the rain stopped. They always went past the busy streets of the internment zone, past the shops, past the apartments, and over to a small gated park where they would birdwatch.
Zeke grabbed his coat again and slipped it on over his broad shoulders as [y/n] tied his armband around his upper arm. Turning around, he grabbed his girlfriend's coat and put it on for her as well. "What a gentleman you are today." She smiled, linking their arms as they stepped out of their small house.
